Fraudsters have discovered a new method! Bank accounts are being emptied in minutes through Google Form, know how to avoid it
Cases of online fraud are increasing continuously and now cyber criminals have made Google Form their new weapon. While earlier it was used for office surveys, event registration or contact forms, now thugs are resorting to it to extract bank details and login information from people. Since these forms run on Google's real server and the link starts with docs.google.com, people are easily deceived by seeing them.
How does this fraud work?
This scam usually starts with a phishing email. The mail is designed in such a way that it appears to be from a trusted source such as a bank, office admin or an acquaintance. Many times the thugs hack the account of someone you know and send the mail from the same, which reduces suspicion even more.
The link sent in this email takes you directly to a Google Form. This form often looks like a copy of a company, bank or official portal. In this, you may be asked for password, card details or other personal information. Sometimes links to download malware or numbers/emails given for cheating are also hidden in it. The most dangerous thing is that fraudsters can create these forms again and again with new links. This makes the security software fail to catch them.
How to avoid Google Form scam?
Never enter passwords or payment details on any Google Form.
Do not trust unusual or sudden mails, especially when they ask you to take immediate action.
If the mail claims to be from a bank or office, then contact that institution directly and confirm.
Pay attention to the message “Never submit passwords” or “Content is neither created nor endorsed by Google” written at the bottom of the Google Form.
Every Google Form has a Report button. If it seems suspicious, report it immediately.
What to do if you give information by mistake?
If you have inadvertently filled sensitive information, then immediately change your password and inform the concerned institution (such as bank or office). Their cyber security department can help you if needed. Google Form scam may be new but it is not difficult to avoid it. Be cautious, double-check suspicious links or emails and do not share personal information on any unknown form. Also, keep your mobile and computer updated to remain safe from any possible malware.
