Rain warning in Punjab..! Schools and colleges closed in many areas

Punjab today heavy rain- A yellow alert has been issued for rain in Punjab today. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar, which border Himachal Pradesh, are likely to receive more than normal rainfall and such weather may continue for the next 24 hours. Apart from this, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Mohali, Patiala and Ludhiana.

Keeping in mind the continuous rainfall in Pathankot as well, a big decision has been taken by the district administration. Due to continuous rainfall in Pathankot, the district administration has declared a holiday in all government and non-government schools, colleges and other educational institutions of Pathankot district on Monday, August 25, 2025 i.e. today.

After the rain in Jammu and Kashmir, the water level in Ranjit Sagar Dam has reached the danger mark of 527 meters. Due to which excess water has been released. This has increased the risk of floods in the Majha region of Punjab. The water level of the Ravi river is continuously rising, due to which the Pathankot-Jammu highway has already been closed and a high alert has been issued from Pathankot to Amritsar.

People have been advised not to go near the river in Ajnala. Due to the increase in water in the Ravi, Uj and Chakki rivers in Gurdaspur, a flood-like situation has arisen in many areas. The confluence of the Ravi and Uj rivers in Dinanagar, Makora Pattan, has been flooded and seven villages on the Pakistan border have lost contact with the rest of the area.

A rain warning continues in Punjab tomorrow as well. Today, there is a possibility of good rain in Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Rupnagar again. But after this, the weather is expected to remain normal for two days, i.e. until Wednesday and Thursday. A new round of rain will start from Friday.
