SpiceJet flight's wheel fell off as soon as it took off, chaos ensued at Mumbai airport, 75 people were on board the plane
There was an uproar at Mumbai Airport on Friday (September 12, 2025). Actually, a Bombardier Q400 aircraft of SpiceJet Airlines developed a technical fault while taking off. Due to this, the outer wheel of the aircraft broke and fell down while taking off. This SpiceJet airline plane had left for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai with 75 passengers and crew members from Kandla Airport in Gujarat.
Although this incident happened in the plane while taking off from Kandla Airport in Gujarat, the plane still continued its journey and landed safely in Mumbai. But, soon after getting information about this incident, a complete emergency was declared at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
AAI official gave information about the incident
Officials confirmed that when Kandla Air Traffic Control (ATC) saw something falling down in the air, the plane had already taken off. The Airport Authority of India official said in his statement, 'Kandla ATC saw something falling down soon after the plane took off. After this, he immediately informed the pilot of the plane and sent the ATC jeep to bring the thing fallen from the plane.'
He said, 'When the ATC jeep reached the runway, they saw that the outer wheel of the plane and its metal rings were fallen.'
Rescue team was on high alert at Mumbai airport
After getting information about the wheel of the plane falling, fire engines and rescue teams were put on high alert at Mumbai airport. However, the plane landed safely at 4 pm on Friday (September 12, 2025). Mumbai airport official said, 'Despite the serious danger in the air, the plane taxied to the terminal on its own and the passengers disembarked safely without any untoward incident.'
Airline gave official statement regarding the incident
SpiceJet spokesperson said in an official statement regarding this incident, 'On September 12, an outer wheel of a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft going from Kandla to Mumbai was found on the runway after takeoff. Still, the plane continued its journey and reached Mumbai and landed safely. After a safe landing at Mumbai airport, the plane taxied to the terminal on its own power and all the passengers disembarked normally.'
What did the former DGCA official say about the incident?
At the same time, a former DGCA official said, 'The wheel coming off the plane is a serious incident, but because the wheel assembly is of two units and one wheel was attached to the plane, the situation was handled. But if one wheel came off, the other could have come off as well.'

The official said, 'The pilot of the plane decided to land in Mumbai instead of returning to Kandla after this incident. It is possible that he might have thought that Mumbai has a longer runway, which is better for landing in such difficult conditions.'
