Winter holidays announced in Punjab schools: Schools will remain closed for one week.
The Punjab government has announced winter holidays for schools. According to the government order, schools will be closed from December 24th to December 31st, inclusive of both days.
According to Anindita Mitra, Secretary of the School Education Department of the Punjab government, this order will apply to all government schools, as well as private aided, recognized, and private schools. Schools will reopen on January 1st.
The Education Department has sent copies of the order to all schools, SCERT, and the Punjab School Education Board. The order will be strictly enforced.

Over 19,000 government schools, over 3.5 million students
Currently, there are more than 19,000 government schools in Punjab, with over 3.5 million students. The Meteorological Department has already indicated that the cold weather will intensify after December 21st. Therefore, the department does not want to take any risks. The annual academic calendar prepared by the Education Department also includes these holidays. The monthly syllabus has also been planned accordingly to ensure that studies continue uninterrupted in schools.

Minimum temperature reaches 4.8 degrees, cold wave alert issued
Currently, the minimum temperature in the state is ranging between 4.8 and 11.6 degrees Celsius. In the last twenty-four hours, the minimum temperature in the state has decreased by 0.1 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain dry for the next 7 days. A drop of approximately 2 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature is expected in the next 48 hours, after which the temperature is likely to gradually increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the state over the next 3 days. Additionally, strong surface winds, or a cold wave, with speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour are expected in the state on December 16th.
