Were in touch with ISI handlers, tasked with killing police personnel: DIG Amritsar Range Sandeep Goyal said, "Ranjeet, Dilawar, and Inderjeet were in touch with handlers of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI. ISI had tasked them with killing the police personnel. Since they were from the nearby Adiya village, they conducted reconnaissance and, when the opportunity arose, killed ASI Gurnam Singh and Home Guard jawan Ashok Kumar." The DIG stated that Dilawar and Ranjeet Singh were subsequently arrested. During interrogation, Ranjeet Singh admitted that he had hidden the pistol used in the crime in Galdi village in the Bahrampur area. To establish evidence, the police took him to recover the weapon.
The fog obscured the path, causing the vehicle to overturn. The accused fled: The DIG stated that when the police team arrived, the rough road was difficult to see due to the fog. The flooding also damaged the road, causing the police vehicle to overturn. The accused, Ranjeet Singh, took the opportunity to escape. ASI Banarasi Das immediately reported the incident, prompting a red alert and a sealing operation.

The CIA stopped them on the way, and the bike skidded: The DIG stated that CIA personnel were stationed near Purana Shala on the Gurdaspur-Mukerian road. Since Ranjeet had been arrested previously, we knew everything about his appearance. Meanwhile, he arrived on a bike with Indrajit Singh. When the police asked him to stop, he reversed the bike but it skidded.
Ranjit was killed in crossfire, five police officers injured: The DIG said that after this, they started running. When the police chased them, Ranjit opened fire. The police then returned fire. CIA in-charge Inspector Gurnam Singh and four other officers were shot. Police then intensified their fire, and Ranjit Singh fell down injured. Meanwhile, his companion escaped. A .32-bore pistol, cartridges, and a bike were recovered from Ranjit.
Acted for money: DIG Sandeep Goyal stated that the three had received a task from Pakistan. They were promised ₹4 lakh (400,000). One of the accused, Dilawar, was to receive ₹20,000, but had already received ₹3,000. Police have learned that they were to collect ₹3 lakh (300,000). The source of the money is also being investigated.
Ranjeet and Indrajeet were the masterminds: DIG Sandeep Goyal stated that Pakistan is a hungry and naked country. It is continuously sending weapons to spread terror in Punjab. The mastermind of this attack was Ranjeet, 19 years old, with no criminal history. His accomplice, Indrajeet, has three drug trafficking convictions. Dilawar, 21 years old, was later lured by them with 20,000 rupees.
No negligence on duty: Only two people were on duty at the checkpoint on the day of the incident. There is no case of negligence on duty. The five people seen on CCTV the previous day were verified as passing by. Subsequently, the accused were arrested and interrogated based on phone dumps. An investigation is also underway into the video of Pakistani criminal Bhatti that surfaced after the incident.
This is a target killing; 10 crore rupees will strengthen second-line defense: The DIG stated that 10 crore rupees have been received from the Punjab government. The checkpoints on the second line of defense will be upgraded to hi-tech. The DIG said that while it's true that there was no door at the checkpoint, this was a targeted killing.
