Mohali MC Action: Bulldozers Raze Illegal Structures in Green Belts After High Court Intervention

The Mohali Municipal Corporation, along with the police and GMADA (Greater Mohali Area Development Authority), has launched a bulldozer operation to remove encroachments made by residents on green belts, markets, footpaths, and other public spaces in front of their homes. During this operation, hedges, flowerbeds, and even parking areas built on government land are being removed. The corporation had previously issued warnings to residents regarding these encroachments, and this drive has now been initiated. Municipal officials state that residents will have to remove these encroachments at all costs.

High Court order issued on January 13

This action was initiated by the Municipal Corporation following an order issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 13. The corporation is required to submit a report to the High Court after this operation. The Municipal Corporation has also warned residents and encroachers to remove the encroachments immediately on their own. Public notices have also been issued in this regard.

The Municipal Corporation started this operation in Phase-7. The entire operation is being videographed, and there is a strong police presence. According to officials, these encroachments have been in place for a long time, causing inconvenience to the public and increasing the risk of accidents. Furthermore, emergency rescue vehicles are unable to reach the affected areas in case of emergencies. Therefore, this action is being taken as part of a larger campaign. The operation will continue until all the encroachments are removed.
