Emergency Landing: Smoke Fills Deputy CM Keshav Maurya's Chopper at 2,000 Feet, Display Fails
Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Maurya's helicopter had to make an emergency landing on Saturday. He took off from Lucknow for Kaushambi at 10:45 a.m. Just 30 minutes later, the helicopter's display suddenly went out and smoke began to fill inside.
The pilot immediately informed Lucknow Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested permission for an emergency landing. By then, the plane had reached Bachhrawan, 50 km away. Upon receiving permission, the pilot turned back toward Lucknow Airport.
The helicopter landed safely at the airport at 11:15 a.m. The helicopter was heavily smoked by the time it landed. Six people, including Keshav, were safely evacuated from the helicopter.
The helicopter was at an altitude of 2,000 feet.
Keshav's helicopter took off from the La Martiniere School grounds in Lucknow, which is near his residence. The helicopter was carrying six people, including Keshav: two pilots, an advisor, a Class IV employee, and security.
The helicopter reached an altitude of 2,000 feet when the pilot noticed a malfunction. After obtaining permission from ATC, the plane was immediately diverted to Lucknow.
The pilot somehow landed the helicopter at Lucknow airport amid tight security arrangements. The fire brigade and ambulance also arrived.
Initial investigations revealed a problem with the helicopter's electronic system. However, the real cause will only be known after the investigation is complete.
Keshav leaves for Kaushambi in another helicopter
Keshav Maurya has now left for Kaushambi in another helicopter. There, Keshav Maurya will inaugurate the two-day Saras Mahotsav program.
