In what will be remembered as one of the most explosive matches of the 2026 season, the Rajasthan Royals chased down a massive target of 223 to defeat the table-toppers, Punjab Kings, by 6 wickets. Despite a masterclass from Marcus Stoinis, RR’s young brigade and powerhouse finishers proved too much for the Punjab bowling attack.
First Innings: Stoinis and Prabhsimran Power PBKS to 222
After being put into bat, Punjab Kings started aggressively. Prabhsimran Singh (59 off 44) anchored the top order, but the real fireworks came late in the innings. Marcus Stoinis played a sensational cameo, smashing 62 off just 22 balls*, including a 24-run onslaught in the final over. Shreyas Iyer and Cooper Connolly provided steady support with 30 runs each, pushing the total to a formidable 222/4.
The Chase: Sooryavanshi’s Lightning Start & Jaiswal’s Milestone
The Royals' response was nothing short of electric. 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tore into the PBKS pace attack, racing to 43 off 16 balls. He set the fastest record for reaching 400 runs in an IPL season (167 balls). At the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 off 27) played a composed yet aggressive knock, becoming only the third player in RR history to record 20 fifty-plus scores.
The Finish: Ferreira and Dubey Seal the Deal
Punjab fought back through Yuzvendra Chahal, who took 3/36 to stall the momentum. With 71 needed off the final 6 overs, the game hung in the balance. However, Donovan Ferreira (52* off 26) and Shubham Dubey (31* off 12) dismantled the PBKS death bowling. An unbeaten 77-run partnership off 32 balls saw the Royals cross the finish line with 4 balls to spare
