Earthquake hit Russia for the second consecutive day, magnitude 6.5: Yesterday the earth shook with a magnitude of 8.8 on Kamchatka Island

An earthquake has struck Russia for the second consecutive day. The magnitude of this earthquake that struck the Kuril Islands in the eastern region of Russia on Thursday morning was 6.5.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), this earthquake was recorded at 10:57 am Indian time. Its depth was just 10 kilometers.

Earlier on Wednesday, a massive earthquake of 8.8 magnitude struck the sea near the Kuril Islands. Which is at number six among the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded. However, there is no news of any casualties so far.

After the 8.8 magnitude earthquake, tsunami waves reached Russia, Japan, China and America. In Russia, these waves were 4 meters high, while in America they were up to 1 meter high.

Yesterday also a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Kurils. Apart from this, a volcano also erupted after the earthquake in Kamchatka.

More than 125 tremors, aftershocks reaching 6.9 magnitude

According to the US Geological Survey, more than 125 aftershocks have occurred around Russia in the last 16 hours after the main earthquake of 8.8 magnitude.

Their intensity has been 4.4 or more. Three of these tremors were of more than 6.0 magnitude, the strongest of which was 6.9 magnitude. It was felt about 45 minutes after the main earthquake.

On Wednesday itself, around 11 am, another aftershock of 6.4 magnitude occurred 200 miles southwest of the main earthquake epicenter.

Volcano also erupted after earthquake in Kamchatka

Just hours after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday, a volcano named Kluchevskaya Sopka erupted on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

There was increasing activity in this volcano for the last few days. Light was coming out of its crater at night and it was spewing ash during the day. On Wednesday, it released a cloud of ash up to a height of about 3 kilometers.

On July 19, the Institute of Volcanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences released a picture of this volcano. In it, a cloud was seen above the crater, which was shining with the light of the lava coming out from below.

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.8 struck Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula this morning. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), its epicenter was at a depth of 19.3 kilometers from the ground. According to Indian time, this earthquake was recorded at 4:54 am.
