Haryana Crime: Zila Parishad Councilor’s Son Among 4 Arrested for Kidnapping, Robbing Uber Driver in Rewari
Rewari:
In a swift operation, Haryana Police have arrested four individuals for abducting and robbing an Uber cab driver at knypoint in Rewari. Among those apprehended is Jatin, the son of Rekha, a Zila Parishad councilor from Ward-15 in Bawal and a political supporter of Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh.
The Incident
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Deepika Agarwal, the victim, Ashish—a resident of Modi village in Mahendragarh district—was operating his Celerio cab on October 10. Around 7:30 PM, Ashish accepted a booking via the Uber app from a liquor vend near Poswal Chowk. Four passengers boarded the vehicle.
When the vehicle reached the underpass near Bhawadi village, the accused suddenly attacked the driver, choked him, and forcefully pushed him into the rear seat.
Forced PhonePe Transfers and Cash Extraction
The suspects drove Ashish to a secluded farmland, snatched his smartphone, and forcibly extracted his security PIN. They immediately transferred around ₹13,000 from his PhonePe account.
Continuing their crime spree, the accused stopped at a local fuel station, filled petrol in the hijacked car, and transferred an additional ₹7,000 to the petrol pump attendant in exchange for hard cash using the driver's phone.
Later, the assailants dumped the victim near the Harinagar bridge on Narnaul Road and sped away with his Celerio car and smartphone.
Police Action and Arrest
Following a complaint lodged at the Model Town Police Station, a joint team from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Rewari and Model Town Police tracked the suspects using cyber surveillance and technical evidence. Within hours, all four suspects were taken into custody.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
-
Jatin (Resident of Bhima Kharkhari Prahladpura; son of councilor Rekha)
-
Kapil (Resident of Bhima Kharkhari Prahladpura)
-
