Kangana apologized in Bathinda court: Said – there was a misunderstanding, it was not my intention.

BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut appeared in Bathinda court on Monday in a defamation case. She apologized for her tweet about an elderly farmer. After her appearance, she spoke to the media, stating that there had been a misunderstanding. "I have sent a message to the mother (elderly female farmer) that she has been the victim of a misunderstanding. I never intended to do so," she said.

The MP said, "Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the way this controversy has unfolded. Every mother, whether from Punjab or Himachal, is revered by me. I am grateful to every sister and daughter who appreciates me."

Farmer Mahinder Kaur did not appear in court on Monday; her husband did, with whom Kangana Ranaut spoke. A bail bond has also been filed on Kangana's behalf in court, provided by her father. The case will now be heard on November 24, 2025.

Let us tell you that the case in which Kangana appeared was from 2021, during the ongoing farmers' protest. During that time, Kangana tweeted about 87-year-old Mahinder Kaur, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandia village in Bathinda, as a woman who was taking 100 rupees to participate in the protest. Mahinder Kaur filed a case against this in court.

Speaking to the media outside the court, Kangana said:

I am saddened by the hurt caused to my mother.
Speaking to the media outside the court, Kangana said that if we look at the case carefully, I didn't even have a single sentence in it. It was a retweet that was used as a meme. I also discussed it with Mahinder ji's husband. Well, now that's an old story. There were many women in that meme, and no comment was made about any particular person.

She said: "Someone tweeted a generalized meme about the protests that were taking place in the country, so we discussed that." We express regret for the misunderstanding that occurred and are saddened by the hurt caused to our mother.

Mahinder Kaur's husband said, "We will seek everyone's opinion."
Kangana stated, "I want to apologize to the complainant, and I never intended to. I didn't tweet against anyone in particular. Therefore, I want to apologize." She explained that Mahinder Kaur was unable to appear due to ill health, and that her husband had come to court.

Kangana stated, "I also spoke with her husband, who responded that he cannot make a decision on this alone. Everyone has contributed to this struggle. Only after consulting with everyone can we decide whether to apologize or not."

Filled an application for exemption from attendance
Kangana has also filed an application for exemption from attendance in court. In the application, she stated that her lawyer should appear in person or she can join via video conferencing. The complainant's lawyer protested, calling it a violation of the law.

Meanwhile, Mahinder Kaur's father said that it's been four years since the case was filed, and they haven't apologized to date. They should have stated a mistake earlier.
