Buying Tesla's car of your favorite color will be expensive, you will have to pay a hefty amount for every color
Elon Musk's electric car company Tesla has finally registered its presence in India. The company has opened its first official showroom in Mumbai. Currently, Tesla has launched its Model Y electric car in India.
This is a 4-door crossover SUV, which will be available in two variants. Its ex-showroom price starts from Rs 59.89 lakh and goes up to Rs 67.89 lakh. The company has introduced Model Y in many color options. The special thing is that the price of the car is also different according to each color or paint scheme.
The price of the car varies according to the color
Tesla Model Y has been launched in India in six different exterior paint color options. The price of these colors has also been kept different. Stealth Gray is considered a standard color and no extra charge is taken for it, but if customers choose colors like Pearl White Multi-Coat or Diamond Black, they will have to pay 95,000 extra.
For Glacier Blue colour, this charge increases to Rs 1.25 lakh. On the other hand, for premium shades like Quicksilver and Ultra Red, customers will have to pay up to Rs 1.85 lakh extra. As far as the interior is concerned, Tesla gives customers two options (all black and black and white theme). The company does not charge any extra for these interior options.
Why is Tesla's price high in India?
Tesla Model Y has been imported to India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). This means that this car is completely manufactured abroad and brought to India. The Indian government imposes an import tax of up to 70% on CBU cars. Due to this tax, an extra charge of Rs 21 lakh or more comes on a car alone.
For example, the same car is available in the US for around $44,990 (about Rs 38 lakh), but in India its price goes above Rs 60 lakh. There are three main reasons behind this - CBU tax, transport cost from Shanghai and custom/handling charges. This is the reason why the prices of Tesla Model Y in India are much higher than the global market, although the features and technology available in it are the same as the global model.
