Farmers Protest at CM Residence in Kurukshetra: Stopped by Police Barricades, Sit on Dharna Over Demands

Ten farmer organizations from Haryana have organized a three-day sit-in protest in Kurukshetra. This morning, farmers first gathered at Tau Devi Lal Park in Kurukshetra and then marched on foot to Jindal Chowk, just before the Chief Minister's residence in Kurukshetra. Police barricaded Jindal Chowk, and a heavy police force was deployed. When thousands of farmer organizations approached the barricades, the police refused to let them pass. The farmers sat on the road and raised slogans against the government.

The three-day sit-in protest will remain in Kurukshetra. The farmers say that if an official comes to negotiate with them, they will be fine, otherwise they will develop a strategy to strengthen the movement.

Fighting the fight democratically
Amarjit Singh Mohri, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Shaheed Bhagat Singh, stated that their protest will be completely peaceful and they are fighting for their rights democratically. The farmers have arrived with food and supplies and have set up camp at the site. They say the protest will continue until they receive concrete assurances on their demands.

No representative has arrived for talks
Farmer leader Ashok Balara, who came from Rohtak, said that so far, no representative from the Chief Minister's residence in Kurukshetra has come for talks, nor has any senior official arrived at the site.

Heavy police force deployed
Meanwhile, the police administration has made elaborate arrangements in view of the farmers' protest. Heavy police force has been deployed and security has been increased in the surrounding areas. However, local residents may face difficulties in traffic and movement.
