Kangana Ranaut gets a setback from Bathinda court: VC's plea for appearance rejected, asked to appear in person

BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has not received relief from the Bathinda court in Punjab. The court rejected her plea to appear via video conference in a defamation case filed against her for comments made during the farmers' protest. Kangana will now have to appear in person on October 27th.

A few days ago, the court summoned Kangana to appear in court. Previously, the Supreme Court also refused to grant her relief.

This case dates back to 2021, during the farmers' protest. During that time, Kangana tweeted about Mahinder Kaur, an 87-year-old farmer from Bahadurgarh Jandia village in Bathinda, as a woman who participated in the protest for ₹100 each.

Mahinder Kaur filed a case against this in court. Kangana stated that she had merely reposted a lawyer's post.

Kangana had made a joke on social media.
During the farmers' protest, Kangana had tweeted that women join the farmers' protest for 100 rupees. Kangana also commented on a post about the farmers' protest. It included a photo of an elderly woman. The actress wrote, "Hahaha, this is the same grandmother who was featured in Time magazine as a powerful woman in India. She's available for 100 rupees. Pakistani journalists have shamefully hijacked India's international PR. We need our own people to speak out internationally."

Case filed on January 4, 2021
Mahinder Kaur (81), a resident of Bahadurgarh village in Bathinda, filed a defamation case on January 4, 2021, following Kangana's tweet. The hearing lasted nearly 13 months, after which a Bathinda court issued summons to Kangana and ordered her to appear. Kangana then filed a petition for relief in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which was rejected. She then approached the Supreme Court, where she received no relief either.

An elderly woman also retaliated against Kangana.

How does Kangana know what farming is?: When the matter began to escalate after Kangana's tweet, Mohinder Kaur, in an interview with a TV channel, said, "How does Kangana know what farming is? She's crazy. I condemn everything she said. How does Kangana know what a farmer earns? Money comes only when sweat flows and blood boils. Earning money from farming is very difficult. Kangana has falsely accused me."

What do I need 100 rupees for? Mohinder Kaur, in the same interview, reacted to Kangana's 100 rupee comment, saying that the work in her fields never ends, so why would she participate in a protest for 100 rupees. What Kangana has said is false. One should never speak ill of anyone.

A female constable slapped her in 2024
After winning the Lok Sabha elections from the Mandi constituency, Kangana was slapped by a CISF female constable, Kulwinder Kaur, at the Chandigarh airport on June 6, 2024. The female employee also explained the reason for the slap. She stated that Kangana had called the women farmers who were sitting on protests for ₹100 each. Her mother was also present at the protest. No FIR was filed against the female constable. In this case, the DSP Airport stated that Kangana had not filed any complaint in this matter.
