The first Vande Bharat sleeper train will run between Guwahati and Kolkata. The fare for Third AC has been fixed at ₹2,300. The Second AC fare will be ₹3,000, and the First AC fare is proposed to be around ₹3,600.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday that the trial, testing, and certification of the Vande Bharat sleeper train have been completed. The sleeper train has been designed keeping in mind journeys of more than 1000 kilometers. Approximately 12 Vande Bharat sleeper trains will be ready by the end of this year.
A trial run of this train was conducted two days ago. The train ran at a speed of 180 kilometers per hour on the Kota-Nagda railway track. The loco pilot placed four glasses of water on a table, and even at that speed, not a single drop of water spilled from the glasses.
Regarding the bullet train, the Railway Minister said that it will be launched on August 15, 2027. The first section to open will be from Surat to Bilimora, followed by the section from Vapi to Surat, then Vapi to Ahmedabad, and finally from Thane to Ahmedabad.
The Railway Minister said that the Prime Minister will soon flag off the train.
Railway Minister Vaishnaw said that PM Modi will soon flag off the first sleeper train. He said that there had been a long-standing demand for new generation trains. The Vande Bharat chair car ushered in a new era in Indian Railways, and people have taken to it very well. There is a demand for Vande Bharat trains from all corners of the country.

The Vande Bharat sleeper features advanced safety features, a superior suspension system, and world-class sleeper coaches. Vaishnaw said that typically, airfares on the Guwahati-Howrah route range between ₹6,000 and ₹8,000, sometimes even reaching ₹10,000. In contrast, the Third AC fare for the Vande Bharat sleeper from Guwahati to Howrah has been set at ₹2,300.
