Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Bhullar arrested: CBI traps and nabs him in Mohali

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Harcharan Bhullar, DIG of the Ropar Range of the Punjab Police. He has reportedly been accused of accepting bribes.

According to sources, the action stems from a complaint filed against him by a scrap dealer in Mandi Gobindgarh. The CBI team arrested him in Mohali.

Harcharan Singh Bhullar is a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He is a 2007 batch officer and has held several important positions in the Punjab Police. He currently serves as Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

Harcharan Singh Bhullar is known for his tough actions and honest image. He has taken strong action against drug mafia, organized crime, and social security issues, earning him recognition as a tough and fair officer within the police department.

Arrested 452 drug smugglers
Harcharan Singh Bhullar launched several influential campaigns and initiatives during his tenure. Under the "War Against Drugs" campaign, he registered 288 FIRs and arrested 452 drug traffickers in the Rupnagar range. His focus wasn't limited to arrests, but also emphasized breaking the drug supply chain. Bhullar worked towards creating a drug-free society by collaborating with social organizations and local leaders.

Raising awareness among students and the public against drug abuse
At events held in Rupnagar in February 2024, Bhullar appealed for collective action against drugs, street crime, and antisocial elements. He visited schools to raise awareness among students and the public to prevent crime at the societal level.

Investigation of Sangrur Jail Violence
Bhullar oversaw the judicial inquiry into the violence that occurred in Sangrur Jail in April 2024, which resulted in the death of two inmates. He paid special attention to weapons inspections and strengthening security in prisons.

Worked towards a crime-free district
During his posting in the Patiala Range, Bhullar worked towards a crime-free district on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He described the police as friends of the public and provided advice on cyber fraud prevention, as well as sharing helpline numbers 1930 and 97791-00200 so that people can seek help directly.

Younger brother Kuldeep is a former MLA
Harcharan Singh Bhullar is the son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mehal Singh Bhullar, known for his anti-terrorism operations in Punjab during the 1980s and 1990s. His younger brother Kuldeep Singh Bhullar is a former Congress MLA. Harcharan Singh Bhullar is an experienced and committed officer who is actively working towards making Punjab a drug-free and safe state.
