Famous Punjabi singer joins MP Amritpal Singh's party
Folk singer Jaskaran Singh Riyar has sparked a new debate in Punjab politics by joining the Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) party of Khalistani-sympathizing MP Amritpal Singh. On this occasion, Amritpal Singh's father, Tarsem Singh, the MP from Khadoor Sahib, warmly welcomed him. This joining, in the presence of party leaders and supporters, is considered politically significant.
During the event, Tarsem Singh also raised the issue of Amritpal Singh not being allowed to speak in the parliamentary session. He stated that preventing Amritpal Singh from expressing his views and discussing issues related to his constituency in the session is against the spirit of democracy. According to him, this is tantamount to suppressing the voice of the people, as millions of voters in Khadoor Sahib elected Amritpal Singh to Parliament with a massive majority.
Injustice to the Sikh community, anger over Amritpal's rights being curtailed
He also said that the Sikh community has faced injustice in the past, and now Amritpal Singh is being treated similarly. The people of the region expect their MP to raise development-related issues in Parliament, but he is being denied that right.
Amritpal's appearance via video conferencing during lawyers' strike
Due to the lawyers' strike, Amritpal Singh's appearance was conducted via video conferencing. It was also clarified regarding a picture circulating on social media that the image was indeed of Amritpal Singh.
It was stated that Amritpal Singh wanted to speak on serious issues such as floods, drug abuse, and the law and order situation in Punjab during the parliamentary session and raise questions related to Khadoor Sahib, but he was not allowed to do so. Party leaders expressed strong resentment over this and said that it is a step that undermines democratic values. They also alleged that institutions are working under government pressure.
