An encounter took place between the police and a shooter of gangster Prabh Dasuwal in Tarn Taran, Punjab, on Tuesday. ​​In the encounter, which occurred in Bhikhiwind, the shooter, Harnoor Noor from Kathunangal, was killed.

During the exchange of fire, a police officer was also shot, but he survived thanks to his bulletproof vest. DIG Sneehdeep Sharma arrived at the scene after the encounter.

He stated that the deceased shooter, Noor, was involved in the conspiracy to murder AAP Sarpanch Jarmal Singh at a marriage palace in Amritsar on January 4th, Sunday. He was assisting the killers in the planning and reconnaissance.

He was also involved with the four accused arrested in connection with the conspiracy to murder Congress leader Harman Sekhon in Tarn Taran. The police had been searching for him.

Gangster was on a motorcycle, police gave chase
DIG Sneehdeep Sharma said that the Tarn Taran Police's CIA team and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) ​​team were patrolling the area when they received information that a wanted shooter was on a motorcycle. The CIA and AGTF teams then began chasing the motorcycle. When they tried to apprehend the shooter, he abandoned his bike.

Instead of surrendering, he opened fire on the police. The police teams retaliated with gunfire. In the crossfire, a police officer was shot, but his bulletproof vest saved him. The shooter was also shot and seriously injured. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Close associate of gangsters Prabh Dasuwal and Afridi

DIG Sneehdeep Sharma stated that the deceased, Harnoor Noor, was a resident of the Kathunangal area. He was a close associate of gangsters Prabh Dasuwal and Afridi, who are based abroad. Noor was also involved in the module that was busted in connection with the case of Congress block president Harman Sekhon in Tarn Taran. AAP Sarpanch Jarmal Singh was murdered in Amritsar, and this individual was also involved in the planning with the shooters.

The DIG further stated that Noor had also conducted reconnaissance on Sarpanch Jarmal Singh. His role in the murder is being investigated in collaboration with the Amritsar police. Harnoor Noor worked in the field for gangsters Prabh Dasuwal and Afridi. A pistol was recovered from him.

Involved in the conspiracy to murder a Congress leader

According to the DIG, the slain shooter, Harnoor Noor, was also part of the module that conspired to murder Congress leader Harman Sekhon. Tarn Taran police arrested four shooters from this module on January 1st. Interrogation revealed that they had planned to target the Congress leader during the district council elections at the end of last year, but they were unsuccessful.

They had hatched this conspiracy at the behest of gangsters Donny Bal and Prabh Dasuwal, who are based abroad. Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira had claimed that the target was Youth Congress leader Harman Sekhon. He had also requested the police to increase Harman's security.

In Punjab, the police have taken action in a case of embezzlement and desecration of 328 sacred copies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The police have arrested Satinder Singh Kohli, the former internal auditor of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and a close aide of Sukhbir Badal. The case has been in the news since 2020, when an inquiry committee formed by the Akal Takht exposed his negligence.

Punjab Police recently registered an FIR, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also questioned the SGPC in the matter.

Since 2009, the SGPC had been paying ₹3.5 lakh (about $3.5 million) monthly to SS Kohli & Associates for internal audit, computerization of accounts and control system.

Former cabinet minister and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that Kohli was arrested from a hotel in Chandigarh. He is considered the main accused in the entire case. This is the first major arrest in this sensitive case. All the accused involved in this case will be arrested soon.

Kohli's company accused of embezzlement

The investigation report of the Akal Takht-appointed committee found that SS Kohli & Associates did only one job and received payment for four. This led to the failure to stop the embezzlement of the holy idols. In 2020, the SGPC terminated his services and passed a resolution to recover 75% of the payment.

Links with Sukhbir Badal

Kohli is believed to be a close chartered accountant of Sukhbir Singh Badal, who handles his personal and SGPC accounts. In 2003, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau had issued arrest warrants against him on charges of money laundering related to the Badal family.

FIR registered against 16 people, SIT formed

AAP General Secretary Baltej Pannu said that when the High Court recently disposed of a petition regarding the disappearance of 328 holy idols, the court ordered an investigation into the matter. Following this, the Punjab Police registered an FIR against 16 people. An SIT was formed.

A recent performance of Shabad Gurbani and Kirtan by renowned Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi at a religious ceremony has sparked controversy. The Jathedar clarified that the Sikh Rehat Maryada (code of conduct) clearly states that only a Sikh, and not a lapsed Sikh, can perform Kirtan in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib. This means that the right to perform Kirtan and its practice should only be held by a person who is a true Sikh and adheres to the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib.

Punjab Police conducted their third encounter in Amritsar within 72 hours. Commissioner Gurpreet Singh stated that two key accused in an armed robbery have been arrested. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Punjab today (15 September). He met flood victims at different places in Amritsar and Gurdaspur. Rahul stayed in Punjab for about 6 and a half hours. While talking about the damage caused by the flood in Ghonewal village of Amritsar, a child started crying, whom Rahul Gandhi pacified by taking him in his lap.

2,097 villages in 23 districts have been affected by the floods in Punjab, and crops in about 1,91,926 hectares have been submerged. 52 people have lost their lives in 15 districts.

Sharp tone against Pakistan and China

The judicial custody of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, arrested in the disproportionate assets case in Punjab, ended today, due to which he was produced in Mohali court. The court has extended Majithia's judicial custody till August 2. On the other hand, in a joint action by the SIT and the Vigilance Department against Bikram Majithia, raids were conducted at several of his locations in Chandigarh-Delhi on Friday.

Apart from Chandigarh, the Vigilance team has also raided Sainik Farm in Delhi. Which is being described as Majithia's alleged benami property. Its estimated value is estimated to be Rs 150 to 200 crore. During the raid, the technical team was also engaged in collecting evidence. Let us tell you that Majithia was arrested by the Vigilance on June 26 and since July 6, he was in judicial custody in New Nabha Jail. During this time, the Vigilance teams have raided his residence and office in Amritsar and Majitha twice. In the last 14 days, two applications were given in Mohali Court

The first application is - his barrack (prisoners' room) in the jail should be changed. His lawyers have said that he has been an MLA and a former minister, so according to the jail rules (jail manual), he should be given special facilities of the Orange category and he should be kept separate from other prisoners.

Threats to bomb the Golden Temple in Amritsar continued for the sixth consecutive day, which has increased the concern of the security agencies. The latest case is of Saturday night, when a threatening message was again sent to the SGPC's email. He raised the question that despite the police taking a suspect Shubham Dubey into custody, why the real culprit has not come forward even after five days. The Jathedar suspected that the purpose of this is to reduce the number of devotees by creating fear in their minds.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a high-level meeting

Taking the threatening email seriously, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann held an emergency meeting with top police and intelligence officials including DGP Gaurav Yadav. After the meeting, he posted on social media and said - We will not compromise on the security of Punjab. Protecting a holy place like the Golden Temple is our top priority. Security agencies are alert and no anti-national element will be spared.

The Chief Minister appealed to the people of Punjab to stay away from rumours and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police.

SGPC had expressed concern
