The country's Information Minister, Abdul Aleem Khan, has stated that the creation of smaller provinces is now certain. He claims this will lead to better governance.

Abdul Aleem Khan attended an Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) workers' convention in Sheikhupura on Sunday. During the event, he said that three new provinces could be created in Sindh and Punjab. A similar division could also take place in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Aleem Khan said that many neighboring countries have several smaller provinces, and therefore, Pakistan should also follow suit. Aleem Khan's party, the IPP, is part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's coalition government. However, Bilawal Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has opposed the move.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah threatened that no one but God has the power to divide Sindh.

Which new provinces could be created?

The Pakistani government has not yet released an official map, but the areas under discussion are as follows:

Punjab: North Punjab, Central Punjab, South Punjab
Sindh: Karachi Sindh, Central Sindh, Upper Sindh
KP: Northern KP, Southern KP, Tribal KP/FATA Region
Balochistan: East Balochistan, West Balochistan, Southern Balochistan
Bilawal's party opposes the division

Bilawal Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which is part of the Shehbaz government, has clearly stated that it will oppose the division of Sindh at all costs.

The PPP has long opposed the division of Sindh in particular. Last month, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah issued a clear warning that no step against the interests of Sindh would be accepted.

He said that the PPP would never accept any move against the interests of its province or the country. He said that rumors of new provinces being created are circulating, but they should be ignored. He reiterated that no one but God has the power to divide Sindh. The demand for new provinces has been raised before, but it has never reached fruition. At the time of its creation in 1947, Pakistan had five provinces: East Bengal, West Punjab, Sindh, North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), and Balochistan.

In 1971, East Bengal seceded to become present-day Bangladesh. Later, the NWFP was renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This time, the proposal has also received support from some think tanks and parties like the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P).

Several smaller parties also oppose the move.

Besides the PPP, several smaller parties are also against this division. The Awami National Party (ANP) and Baloch nationalist parties have called it a "divide and rule" policy.

They argue that creating smaller provinces could weaken local identity and culture, diminish the political power of larger provinces, and further strengthen the grip of the army and the central government.

Furthermore, it could exacerbate tensions in regions like Balochistan. Some experts say this move could further complicate the country's already unstable political landscape.

Two-thirds majority required to create new provinces

Many political experts say that the army's influence in Pakistan's power structure has increased in recent years. Therefore, the decision to divide the provinces might be more of a strategy to increase political control than a genuine administrative reform.

Creating new provinces requires a constitutional amendment, which needs a two-thirds majority in Parliament. If Pakistan is divided into 12 provinces, the country's administrative structure, politics, and resource allocation will be completely transformed.

Experts say: More provinces mean more problems

Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, a senior Pakistani officer and former police official, says that simply increasing the number of provinces will not solve the problems.

According to Ali Shah, weak institutions, unequal application of the law, lack of accountability, and the failure to empower local governments are the real problems facing the country.

Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, head of the think tank PILDAT, also said that past experiences show that administrative reorganizations have only increased grievances. According to them, creating new provinces would be an expensive, politically controversial, and complex step. The real need is to strengthen local governments.

He said, “In the last eight decades, the world has witnessed many ups and downs. Humanity has had to face many kinds of challenges and crises. But amidst all this, the India-Russia friendship has always remained unwavering and stable, like the North Star.”

Modi said that the relations between the two countries have stood the test of time. The PM said that both countries have formulated a strategy for economic cooperation until 2030. Meanwhile, the Russian President said that Russia will continue to supply oil to India without interruption.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is on a visit to India, was welcomed this morning at Rashtrapati Bhavan with a 21-gun salute. He was then given a Guard of Honour. After that, Putin paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, at Rajghat.

Putin-Modi Press Conference Ends
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have concluded their press conference in Delhi.

Initially, the two leaders signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in areas such as trade and agriculture.

MoUs are not legally binding, but are initial documents that set the direction for larger and more formal agreements in the future.

During the press conference, neither leader took questions from the media, but they made the following statements.

Putin says Russia will continue to supply weapons to India
Putin said that for almost fifty years, Russia has been helping the Indian Army with weapons and modernizing it, whether it is the Air Defence Forces, aviation or the Navy. Overall, we are completely satisfied with the results of the talks we have just concluded.

I am fully confident that this visit and the agreements reached here will further deepen the strategic partnership between India and Russia, which will benefit both our countries and the people of India and Russia. Putin says India-Russia business increased by 12% in one year
Putin said that bilateral trade between India and Russia increased by 12% last year. This is a new record in itself. He said that this figure may appear slightly different in different sources, but on average it is approximately 64 billion US dollars.

Putin said that they are estimating that the level of trade will remain equally strong this year as well. Putin said that both countries are ready to take this trade to 100 billion dollars.

Exports from Russia to India

Crude oil accounts for approximately 76% of imports from Russia to India. If other oil and coal are included, it goes up to 85%.

Exports from India to Russia

Medicines, fine chemicals, textiles, tea, coffee, rice, spices, etc.

Nuclear power plant being built with Russia's help
Putin said that Russia and India are jointly building the largest nuclear power plant in India. This is the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (Tamil Nadu). It is one of the largest nuclear projects not only in India but also in Asia.

A total of 6 reactors are being built in this plant. Each reactor will generate 1000 megawatts of electricity. That means that when the entire project is completed, it will provide 6000 megawatts (6 gigawatts) of electricity.

Putin said that three of the six reactors have already been connected to India's energy network. The remaining 3 reactors (Units 4, 5 and 6) are in different stages of construction.

Why is this project special?

It will provide India with clean energy.
It will reduce dependence on coal.
It will increase the availability of electricity in the states of South India.

The ash and sulfur dioxide from the eruption reached a height of about 15 km, spreading across the Red Sea and reaching Yemen and Oman.

At around 11 pm on Monday night, the ash spread 4,300 km from Ethiopia to Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi-NCR, and Punjab in India.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the ash cloud would clear from India by 7:30 pm on Tuesday and move towards China.

Air India canceled 11 flights due to this cloud. Experts stated that the height of the cloud was so high that its impact on public life was minimal.

No one has been killed in the incident so far.

The eruption occurred at the Haile Gubbi volcano in the Afar region. It was such an old and dormant volcano that no records of it existed until now. No one was killed in this incident, but the governments of Yemen and Oman have urged people to exercise caution, especially those with respiratory problems.

Airplanes were also being affected by the ash in the sky. Flights in areas like Delhi and Jaipur were being monitored due to the ash. Ash particles can damage engines, so precautions were being taken under international aviation protocols.

DGCA Issued Guidelines

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued detailed guidelines for airlines. Although the ash was at a high altitude, there was no significant risk to takeoff and landing.

The DGCA stated that if any aircraft is suspected of having been exposed to ash, such as engine performance problems, smoke in the cabin, or a foul odor, the airline must immediately report the incident. If ash impacts airport operations, the airport concerned must immediately inspect the runway, taxiway, and apron.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has warned all airlines and airports to exercise caution. Akasa Air, IndiGo, and KLM have canceled several flights due to volcanic ash.

The DGCA has stated that:

Airlines should avoid flying over ash-covered areas.

Change flight routes and planning.

If any aircraft encounter ash, report it immediately.

QuoteImage
On the other hand, US President Trump is not attending the summit. African President Ramaphosa stated that he would have to hand over the presidency to an "empty chair." According to Reuters, the South African presidency has rejected the offer to hand over the hosting to a US official.

The United States is scheduled to assume the G20 presidency in 2026, but no American official has attended. Trump had stated in the last session that he would send an American official to take over the hosting.

Why is the G20 Summit special for India?

This year's G20 Summit, being held in South Africa, is special for India because, during its presidency in 2023, India secured the African Union's membership in the G20.

This is the first time the summit is being held in Africa. This has increased India's respect in all African countries. When PM Modi arrived in Africa on Friday, local artists welcomed him by prostrating themselves on the ground in his honor.

In the absence of Trump, Putin, and Xi Jinping, India has become the most prominent face of the summit. PM Modi will present India's views on issues such as economic development, climate resilience, and artificial intelligence in all three key sessions of the summit.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Dhaka sentenced her to death for inciting murder and ordering murder, and life imprisonment for the remaining counts. The ICT had charged her in five cases.

The tribunal declared Sheikh Hasina the mastermind of the killings that took place during the July 2024 student protests. The second accused, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, was also found guilty of the murders and sentenced to death. The courtroom applauded as the sentence was announced.

The third accused, former IGP Abdullah Al-Mamun, was sentenced to five years in prison. Mamun is in custody and has become a government witness. The court ordered the confiscation of Hasina and Asaduzzaman Kamal's properties.

Hasina had fled to India after the coup.

Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman left the country after the coup on August 5, 2024. Both leaders have been living in India for the past 15 months.

Following the verdict, the Yunus government has demanded that the Indian government hand over Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh. The Prime Minister's Office issued a statement saying that according to the extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh, it is India's responsibility to hand over the former Bangladeshi Prime Minister.

The court that Hasina established handed down the sentence.

The International Crimes Tribunal, which sentenced Hasina to death, was established by her in 2010. It was created to investigate and punish cases such as war crimes and genocide committed during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

Although legislation was passed in 1973 to establish this tribunal, the process stalled for decades. Subsequently, Hasina established it in 2010 to prosecute the perpetrators.

Yunus said, "Do not engage in provocative or illegal activities."
The Yunus government issued a statement on the sentencing of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, calling it a historic decision. The interim government appealed to the public to remain calm, composed, and responsible.

The government specifically urged people not to engage in any kind of disturbance, provocation, violence, or illegal activities following the verdict.

The government has clearly stated that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to create anarchy, disorder, or disrupt law and order.

Hasina said, "This decision is wrong and biased."
Sheikh Hasina stated that the verdict against her is wrong, biased, and politically motivated. She claimed that this decision was given by a tribunal run by an unelected government that lacks public mandate.

She said that people know that this entire case is not an investigation of real events, but an attempt to target the Awami League.

Hasina said that the police system has weakened under the Yunus government. The justice system has weakened, attacks on Awami League supporters and Hindu-Muslim minorities have increased, women's rights are being suppressed, and the influence of fundamentalists is growing.

Hasina said that Dr. Yunus was not elected by anyone. She said that Bangladesh's next election should be completely free and fair.

According to AFP news agency, Pakistani troops opened fire in the Spin Boldak area of Afghanistan around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

An Afghan military source told the news agency that Pakistani troops targeted civilians with heavy weapons. At present, information on casualties is not available. According to some media reports, Afghanistan also retaliated.

This clash occurred at a time when the third round of peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan is scheduled to take place in Turkiye on Thursday. The two sides signed a ceasefire in Qatar on October 19, but the second round of talks held in Turkiye last week ended without any agreement. Today's talks are also being conducted under the mediation of Turkiye and Qatar.

Pakistan stated that if the talks fail to resolve the issue, they will respond with full force.

ISI Chief Lieutenant General Asim Malik is leading the peace talks on behalf of Pakistan, while Intelligence Chief Abdul Haq Wasiq, Deputy Interior Minister Rahmatullah Najib, and spokesperson Suhail Shaheen are participating on behalf of the Taliban.

Pakistan's clear stance is that it will not tolerate any terrorist activity against it from Afghan soil, and that the TTP must cease harboring.

Turkey had stated in the previous round that the ceasefire would continue and be monitored, with violations punished. A Pakistani military spokesman has warned that if the talks fail to resolve the issue, Pakistan reserves the right to take action and will respond with full force to any attack.

The two-day talks are expected to lead to steps to open the border and curb terrorism.

Pakistan bombed Kabul

The conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan began on October 9 when Islamabad attacked Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) bases in Kabul. Afghans blame Pakistan for border disputes and airspace violations.

The root of the dispute between the two countries is the Durand Line, a line drawn between India and Afghanistan during the British era. It divides the traditional lands of the two countries, and the Pashtuns on both sides have never accepted it.

Deadly exchanges of fire broke out between the two sides at at least seven locations along the Durand Line. Both sides claimed heavy losses. According to Reuters, Pakistan said it killed more than 200 Afghan Taliban and their allies, while Afghanistan claimed 58 Pakistani soldiers.

The Pakistani attack killed three cricketers.

Pakistan carried out an airstrike in Afghanistan's Paktika province on October 18. Seventeen people were killed in this attack, including three Afghan cricketers.

According to local media reports, these attacks took place in residential areas of the Urgun and Barmal districts. A 48-hour ceasefire was previously in place between the two countries on Wednesday, October 15th, which ended at 6 p.m. Friday. An agreement was reached to extend it. However, Pakistan attacked just hours later.

Its wind speed was 208 kilometers per hour. Earlier on Tuesday night, it wreaked havoc in Jamaica. Melissa has so far claimed 30 lives in Haiti, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.

Before the storm hit Cuba, 735,000 people were evacuated. President Miguel Diaz-Canel had warned of significant damage, urging everyone to evacuate. Due to the decrease in wind speed, the hurricane has been downgraded from a Category 5 to a Category 3 hurricane.

The UN stated yesterday that it is the strongest hurricane of the century. The US Weather Service also stated that Melissa's wind speed is comparable to the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane, which reached 300 kilometers per hour in Florida.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness said that the country has suffered significant damage, but we will rebuild it better than before. He wrote on the X: "Those whose homes were destroyed are devastated. I understand your pain. Relief and reconstruction have begun. We are with you."

Watch this video from inside Hurricane Melissa...

The Hurricane Hunters of the 403rd Wing of the US Air Force Reserve have released a video showing the very center of Hurricane Melissa. This video was shot as the storm was approaching Jamaica on Sunday.

Hurricane Melissa became a Category 5 hurricane in 24 hours

Melissa began moving at 120 kmph on Saturday. By Sunday night, its speed increased to 225 kmph. By Monday night, its speed had reached 260 kmph, making it a Category 5 hurricane.

A Category 5 hurricane is considered the most dangerous category of hurricane. It has winds of more than 252 kilometers per hour (or 157 miles per hour).

Its winds are so strong that even reinforced concrete buildings can be damaged. Trees are uprooted, and power and communication systems can be completely disrupted.

High waves and storm surges can reach several meters in height, causing massive flooding in coastal areas. Four Category 5 hurricanes have been recorded so far in 2025.

Warming ocean waters contributed to the hurricane's strengthening.

According to scientists at Climate Central, the ocean over which Hurricane Melissa passed was approximately 1.4 degrees Celsius warmer due to climate change. This warming was due to human-caused pollution and global warming.

Scientists have explained that when ocean waters warm, hurricanes absorb more moisture. Therefore, storms like Melissa can now produce 25 to 50 percent more rainfall than before.

A storm formed from warm air masses off the coast of West Africa.

Hurricane Melissa is the fifth hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. It formed from a tropical wave (a wave of warm and moist air) off the coast of West Africa in early October, gradually gaining strength as it moved across the Atlantic Ocean.

The name Melissa is from the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) six-yearly list.

Melissa was previously a weak storm in 2019, so its name was not retired.

If the 2025 Melissa causes significant devastation, the name will be permanently removed from the list. Storm names are chosen for easy pronunciation and identification.

What is the difference between a typhoon, a hurricane, and a tornado?

A storm is a type of atmospheric disturbance characterized by strong winds and accompanied by rain, snow, or hail. When they occur on land, they are called ordinary storms, but storms originating from the sea are called hurricanes.

Hurricanes are more dangerous than ordinary storms. Hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons are all the same thing. Cyclones are called by different names around the world.

For example, cyclones that form in North America and the Caribbean Islands are called hurricanes, cyclones in the Philippines, Japan, and China are called typhoons, and storms that form around Australia and the Indian Ocean, i.e., India, are called cyclones.

From an oceanic perspective, cyclones that form in the Atlantic and Northwest Oceans are called hurricanes. Storms that form in the Northwest Pacific Ocean are called typhoons. Storms that form in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean are called cyclones.

For this reason, hurricanes that occur in areas around India are called cyclones. Tornadoes are also strong storms, but they are not cyclones because they mostly form on land rather than in the sea. Most tornadoes occur in America.

Earlier on Wednesday, a massive earthquake of 8.8 magnitude struck the sea near the Kuril Islands. Which is at number six among the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded. However, there is no news of any casualties so far.

After the 8.8 magnitude earthquake, tsunami waves reached Russia, Japan, China and America. In Russia, these waves were 4 meters high, while in America they were up to 1 meter high.

Yesterday also a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Kurils. Apart from this, a volcano also erupted after the earthquake in Kamchatka.

More than 125 tremors, aftershocks reaching 6.9 magnitude

According to the US Geological Survey, more than 125 aftershocks have occurred around Russia in the last 16 hours after the main earthquake of 8.8 magnitude.

Their intensity has been 4.4 or more. Three of these tremors were of more than 6.0 magnitude, the strongest of which was 6.9 magnitude. It was felt about 45 minutes after the main earthquake.

On Wednesday itself, around 11 am, another aftershock of 6.4 magnitude occurred 200 miles southwest of the main earthquake epicenter.

Volcano also erupted after earthquake in Kamchatka

Just hours after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday, a volcano named Kluchevskaya Sopka erupted on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

There was increasing activity in this volcano for the last few days. Light was coming out of its crater at night and it was spewing ash during the day. On Wednesday, it released a cloud of ash up to a height of about 3 kilometers.

On July 19, the Institute of Volcanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences released a picture of this volcano. In it, a cloud was seen above the crater, which was shining with the light of the lava coming out from below.

He has been accused of embezzlement of temple property and funds, having illicit relations with many women and being the father of illegitimate children.

According to the China Daily report, several government agencies are jointly investigating these allegations. Meanwhile, the Buddhist Association of China has taken away his initiation certificate on Monday. The association said in its statement that Shi Yongxin's actions have caused serious damage to the reputation of the Buddhist community and the image of the monks.

Accused of violating the principles of Buddhism on the head priest

The activities of the head priest are considered to be a blatant violation of the principles of Buddhism. The officials investigating the case have said that whatever information comes to light will be shared with the public from time to time.

Shaolin Temple is located in the hills of Henan province in Central China. This 1500-year-old temple is famous all over the world not only for religious reasons but also for its martial arts tradition, especially Kung Fu. Every year, lakhs of people from India and abroad visit this Buddhist temple.

Yongxin made Shaolin famous all over the world

Xi Yongxin has been the head of the Shaolin Temple since 1999. He transformed this temple into a modern business model, due to which he came to be known as the 'CEO Monk'. Under his leadership, the temple opened schools abroad and formed a group of monks who perform Shaolin Kung Fu shows all over the world.

However, this is not the first time that Yongxin has been in controversy. First of all, in the year 2006, a local government gifted him a Volkswagen SUV worth about 1 million yuan (about $125,000).

It was then believed that Xi had helped promote local tourism, due to which the government was pleased and gifted him this. However, Yongxin then called it a gift and said that he did not take any personal benefit.

Earlier also he was accused of having illicit relations with women

After this, in the year 2015, one of his former disciples claimed that Xi Yongxin had illicit relations with many women and they also have children. On this, he said that these allegations are false and baseless. Later, these allegations were dismissed due to lack of any evidence.

After this, he was accused of misusing the projects and property related to the temple and taking personal benefit from them. He was accused of financial irregularities by issuing fake receipts and hiding his identity. However, no evidence was found for this either.

Yongxin also once wore a bracelet made of gold thread, for which he was criticized. In some reports, its price was said to be $ 25,000.

In Buddhism, monks are expected to be simple and stay away from worldly pleasures. Critics said that when an abbot, who should lead a monk's life, wears such a flashy, expensive robe, it tarnishes the dignity of religion and the tradition of the temple.

In an interview with BBC Chinese, when he was asked why such serious allegations were leveled against him, he said, "If there was really something wrong, it would have come to light by now."
