An Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team arrested an excise department constable red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of ₹6,000 in Ghaziabad. During the arrest, the accused attempted to flee the scene but was chased down and overpowered by the team after a 50-meter pursuit.

Demanding Bribes for Four Months The complainant, Bhim Singh, a resident of Sihani village who runs a country liquor shop in Tahleta village (Bhojpur), alleged that Constable Jagat Singh had been harassing him for the past four months. The constable demanded a monthly bribe of ₹6,000, threatening to issue challans and shut down the liquor shop if the money was not paid.

Bhim Singh initially reported the extortion to the excise department officials, but no action was taken. Frustrated, he reached out to the Meerut Anti-Corruption team about 10 days ago.

The Trap and Arrest Following the complaint, an eight-member team was constituted under the leadership of Inspector Rahul Kumar. On Wednesday, near the excise office in the Modinagar tehsil complex, the team laid a trap and caught Constable Jagat Singh red-handed accepting the cash. The accused tried to break free and run, but the team successfully pinned him down after a short chase.

Accused Profile & Next Steps Constable Jagat Singh, originally from Haldwani, Uttarakhand, has been posted in the Modinagar circle for the last seven years. He currently resides in Ghaziabad with his family.

He was brought to the Modinagar police station where legal proceedings are underway under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACP of Modinagar confirmed that a formal case is being registered based on the complaint, and a letter is being sent to the excise department recommending strict departmental action against the accused.
