A severe heatwave warning remained active for the city as civic authorities deployed anti-smog water guns to sprinkle city roads to protect citizens from direct thermal radiation and radiant heat.

Why is Jaipur Hotter Than the Desert?

Meteorologists attribute this anomaly to structural and environmental differences:

The Urban Heat Island Effect: Modern concrete infrastructure, dense traffic, and industrial output trap massive heat in urban centers like Jaipur. Unlike open desert sands—which heat up quickly under the sun but cool down rapidly after sunset—concrete structures absorb heat during the day and radiate it continuously throughout the night, causing both day and night temperatures to skyrocket.

Relieving News: Weather Changes Expected From Tomorrow

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), this brutal heatwave is on its final stretch. A fresh active Western Disturbance (an extra-tropical storm originating in the Mediterranean region that brings sudden rain to northwestern India) is steadily approaching the state.

This atmospheric system is expected to trigger widespread dust storms, high-velocity winds (ranging between 40 to 50 km/h), overcast skies, and light to moderate rainfall starting tomorrow. The rainfall will break the heatwave cycle, dropping overall state temperatures by 2°C to 4°C and offering much-needed respite to the capital and neighboring districts.
