In a major administrative crackdown, the Haryana Government’s Health Department has suspended four high-ranking medical professionals with immediate effect. The disciplined officials include three Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) and one Medical Officer (MO). The stern action was taken due to alleged non-performance, gross negligence, and a critical failure to effectively monitor and implement state-level initiatives aimed at improving the Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB).

The formal orders were issued by the Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Sumita Misra, sending a clear message across the state's medical infrastructure regarding accountability and performance standards.

Identity of the Suspended Health Officials

The official state directive lists the four affected medical personnel and their respective Community Health Centres (CHCs):

• Dr. Tina Anand: Senior Medical Officer (SMO) posted at CHC Purkhas in Sonipat.

• Dr. Vijay Parmar: Senior Medical Officer (SMO) posted at CHC Radaur in Yamunanagar.

• Dr. Satpal: Senior Medical Officer (SMO) posted at CHC Chiri in Rohtak.

• Dr. Prabha: Medical Officer (MO) posted at CHC Sehlang in Narnaul.

During their suspension period, these four officers will be detached from their current positions and attached to the offices of Civil Surgeons in Rohtak, Ambala, Jhajjar, and Rewari, respectively.

Reason Behind the Massive Crackdown

The primary catalyst for this swift disciplinary action is a recent, alarming dip in the state's gender metrics.

Key Statistics: In the first four months of 2026, Haryana’s Sex Ratio at Birth dropped significantly to 898 girls per 1,000 boys. This is a troubling decline compared to last year's record-high average of 923 girls per 1,000 boys.

Districts like Sonipat, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar—the exact jurisdictions of the suspended SMOs—were identified as major underperformers, dragging the gender ratio well below the critical 900-mark. Consequently, the government initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against them under Rule 7 of the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016.

Strict Implementation of PC&PNDT and MTP Acts

Following the suspensions, Additional Chief Secretary Sumita Misra reinforced that the Health Department will show zero tolerance toward lax enforcement. She directed all district health authorities and Civil Surgeons to fiercely ramp up field-level monitoring.

The department is aggressively pursuing the strict implementation of:

1. The PC&PNDT Act: (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act) to entirely eliminate illegal sex-determination practices and female foeticide.

2. The MTP Act: (Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act) to ensure legal compliance and protect public health.

All districts have been ordered to increase surprise raids on diagnostic facilities, enhance local intelligence, and establish robust grassroot-level surveillance systems to catch offenders early and stabilize the state's sex ratio.
