The Power Shift

After ten years in the opposition, the United Democratic Front (UDF) is projected to cross the magic halfway mark of 71 seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly. Most pollsters, including Axis My India and Matrize, suggest a strong "anti-incumbency" wave has worked in favor of the Congress-led alliance. 

Major Factors Driving the Change

• Anti-Incumbency: After two consecutive terms (2016–2026), the LDF faced challenges regarding unemployment and specific governance issues.

• Welfare Promises: The UDF’s manifesto—which included free travel for women in state buses and direct income support—appears to have resonated with the massive 81.2% female voter turnout.

• Economic Concerns: Rising prices and the demand for a higher rubber support price were central themes during the campaign.

What’s Next?

While the LDF remains hopeful of a "hat-trick" win based on their infrastructure projects, the UDF leadership, led by V.D. Satheesan, has expressed confidence in securing over 100 seats. The official results will be declared on May 4, 2026.
