He has been granted a 40-day parole. After receiving parole around 11:30 AM on Monday, he left for the Dera headquarters in Sirsa.

A convoy of luxury vehicles from the Sirsa Dera arrived to pick up Gurmeet Ram Rahim from Sunaria Jail, including two bulletproof Land Cruisers, two Fortuners, and two other vehicles. This is the 15th time the Dera chief has been released from jail on parole or furlough. Earlier, Dera chief Ram Rahim had come out of jail to celebrate his birthday on August 15th.

It is being said that this time Ram Rahim will not go to the Barnawa Ashram in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, but will stay at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa. Police personnel have been deployed around the Dera for Ram Rahim's security.

Dera chief Ram Rahim has been in jail since 2017.
On August 25, 2017, Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the case of sexual assault of two female followers. Later, on January 17, 2019, he was given a life sentence in the murder case of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati. In October 2021, the CBI court sentenced him to life imprisonment in the murder case of Dera manager Ranjit Singh.

Three years after the sentence, the High Court acquitted Ram Rahim in this case. Ram Rahim is currently imprisoned in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak. He has been released from here on parole and furlough 14 times so far. This is the 15th time Ram Rahim will be released from jail. He was previously granted parole during the Delhi Assembly elections.

Earlier, in April, he was released on 21-day parole. In January, he was released on 30-day parole a week before the Delhi Assembly elections. During this time, he stayed at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa. Previously, when he was out of jail, he stayed at the Dera ashram in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

There, he released a video message to his followers, appealing to them to follow the instructions issued by Dera officials. He is not allowed to gather his followers at the Dera, but he can communicate with them through virtual means.

What are parole and furlough, under which Ram Rahim is released?

Parole: A prisoner can be granted parole if they have completed a portion of their sentence. Parole is granted to prisoners only under special conditions, such as the death or illness of a family member, the marriage of a close relative, or other compelling reasons. There are two types of parole: regular and custody. In regular parole, the prisoner can remain free, but in custody parole, the prisoner is accompanied by the police.

Learn about furlough as well: A prisoner does not need any special conditions to be granted furlough. It is their legal right. Every state has its own rules and guidelines for furlough. The rules and guidelines of many states are more or less the same, only the process of obtaining furlough differs.

She apologized for her tweet about an elderly farmer. After her appearance, she spoke to the media, stating that there had been a misunderstanding. "I have sent a message to the mother (elderly female farmer) that she has been the victim of a misunderstanding. I never intended to do so," she said.

The MP said, "Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the way this controversy has unfolded. Every mother, whether from Punjab or Himachal, is revered by me. I am grateful to every sister and daughter who appreciates me."

Farmer Mahinder Kaur did not appear in court on Monday; her husband did, with whom Kangana Ranaut spoke. A bail bond has also been filed on Kangana's behalf in court, provided by her father. The case will now be heard on November 24, 2025.

Let us tell you that the case in which Kangana appeared was from 2021, during the ongoing farmers' protest. During that time, Kangana tweeted about 87-year-old Mahinder Kaur, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandia village in Bathinda, as a woman who was taking 100 rupees to participate in the protest. Mahinder Kaur filed a case against this in court.

Speaking to the media outside the court, Kangana said:

I am saddened by the hurt caused to my mother.
Speaking to the media outside the court, Kangana said that if we look at the case carefully, I didn't even have a single sentence in it. Voting will take place on November 11th, and counting will take place on November 14th.

All major parties have announced their candidates before the election announcement. The election code of conduct also came into effect with the election announcement. This seat fell vacant about three months ago following the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal.

Read about the candidates from four major parties...

1. AAP gives opportunity to a defector
For the Tarn Taran by-election in Punjab, the four major parties: Congress, AAP, Akali Dal, and BJP have fielded their candidates. Among them, AAP has once again given a chance to a defector. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced Harmeet Sandhu as the candidate last Friday. He left the Akali Dal and joined the AAP.

The AAP, which won 92 out of 117 seats in 2022, fielded leaders from other parties in most of the by-elections in Punjab, and they won. Before Tarn Taran, the AAP won three seats in the by-elections.

2. Congress chose a traditional leader
Congress has nominated Karanbir Singh Burj from this constituency. Burj is the former vice president of the Congress Farmers' Cell and a senior Congress leader in the district. He has also served as the state vice president of the Congress Farmers' Cell. Burj hails from the Tarn Taran region and has consistently raised local issues and farmer concerns in the area. He is considered a supporter and close associate of senior Punjab Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa.

3. BJP also gave ticket to a former Akali
The BJP has nominated Harjeet Singh Sandhu, a former Akali and Youth Akali leader. He has served as the district president of the BJP Tarn Taran since December 2022. He is considered to have a strong hold on local politics and organization. She began her political career in 2007 with the youth wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, but joined the BJP before the 2022 assembly elections.

4. The Akali Dal has joined forces with the Azad Group.
The Shiromani Akali Dal has nominated Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa as its candidate in the Tarn Taran by-election. She is known as a prominent leader of the "Azad Group." Under her leadership, the local group contested the local body elections, resulting in 43 sarpanches, 8 municipal council councilors, and several former chairmen joining her. Therefore, her support base is considered quite strong. Sukhwinder Kaur has previously served as a school principal, and as a result, she has a reputation among locals as a social worker and a disciplined leader.
