Weather Warnings & Advisories

For the first time, a Red Alert has been issued for Punjab and Chandigarh, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by severe lightning. The Meteorological Department predicts this weather pattern will persist until July 31.

Authorities have issued strict advisories urging residents to:

• Avoid taking shelter under trees or utility poles.

• Stay away from waterlogged areas.

Additionally, an Orange Alert has been issued for the districts of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr (SBS Nagar), Rupnagar, and Mohali. These areas face a high risk of heavy downpours, thunderstorms, lightning, and severe waterlogging.

Looming Flood Threat in Punjab

The incessant rain has significantly elevated water levels in major reservoirs, sparking fears of potential flooding in Punjab:

• Bhakra Dam: The water level has reached 1595.38 feet, which is just 84 feet below the danger mark of 1680 feet.

• Pong Dam: The current water level stands at 1331.58 feet, leaving a buffer of just 58.42 feet before it hits the danger mark of 1390 feet.

According to experts, if the current weather persists, the Bhakra Dam could reach its danger mark in 20 to 30 days, while the Pong Dam could reach its limit in 15 to 25 days. Should this happen, authorities will be forced to open the floodgates, significantly increasing the risk of widespread flooding in Punjab.

Tragedy on the Highway: Family of 5 Killed

The torrential rains claimed the lives of an entire family in neighboring Himachal Pradesh. A car skidded off the wet Pathankot-Chamba National Highway and plunged into a deep gorge.

All five occupants, whose bodies were trapped inside the vehicle, perished. The deceased have been identified as car owner Bachchan Singh, his son Ripan (who was posted at the Pong Dam in the police department), his daughter-in-law Rimpi, his niece Kirti Rana (who worked privately in Chandigarh), and his 8-month-old grandson.

The family was returning home on Monday night after the infant underwent ear surgery at PGI Chandigarh.

Flash Floods Devastate Himachal Pradesh

In Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, heavy rains triggered massive flash floods. Residents were forced to flee their homes at midnight to save their lives.

The deluge of water and debris has caused severe damage to homes and businesses, with one house's entire ground floor completely buried in mud. In the Sarol neighborhood, approximately 10 vehicles were heavily damaged, while several others were swept away by the raging floodwaters.

The catastrophic weather has paralyzed transport networks, shutting down more than 250 roads across the state, including the crucial Pathankot-Bharmour National Highway.

Pollution in Delhi-NCR is steadily increasing. On Thursday, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was 506, which falls in the hazardous category. In a live ranking by IQ Air, an international organization that measures air pollution worldwide, Delhi was ranked as the most polluted city in the world.

Due to increasing air pollution, the Delhi government has banned sports events in all schools in November and December. Earlier, on October 18, the Supreme Court had ordered against sports functions in Delhi schools due to pollution in Delhi-NCR.

राजस्थान, गुजरात में लू चलने की संभावना मौसम पूर्वानुमान के अनुसार, सिर्फ़ दिल्ली ही नहीं बल्कि राजस्थान भी भीषण गर्मी की चपेट में है, जहाँ 19 अप्रैल तक लू चलने से लेकर भीषण लू चलने का अनुमान है।
गुजरात, पंजाब, हरियाणा और पश्चिमी मध्य प्रदेश में भी 15 से 18 अप्रैल के बीच तापमान में उछाल आने की संभावना है। 

बारिश से 2 दिन की राहत बाद राजस्थान में फिर से लू ने दस्तक दी है। सोमवार को बाड़मेर जिले का तापमान देश में सबसे ज्यादा 45.4 डिग्री दर्ज किया गया। आज प्रदेश के 6 जिलों में हीटवेव का यलो अलर्ट है। मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक, राज्य में 19 अप्रैल तक राहत मिलने की कोई उम्मीद नहीं है।

इधर, बिहार में बिजली गिरने से 4 लोगों की मौत हो गई। अरवल में सोमवार शाम शादीपुर गांव में बिजली की चपेट में आने से पिता अवधेश यादव (48), पत्नी राधिका देवी (45) और बेटी रिंकू कुमारी (18) ने मौके पर मौत हो गई। वहीं, गोपालगंज के कोटवा गांव में भी एक शख्स की मौत हुई है।

मौसम विभाग ने आज मंगलवार को मध्य प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र समेत देश के 20 राज्यों में आंधी-बारिश का अनुमान जताया है। महाराष्ट्र के कुछ इलाकों में बिजली और झारखंड के कुछ इलाकों में ओले गिर सकते हैं। बिहार, पश्चिम बंगाल और ओडिशा के अलावा असम, मणिपुर, मेघालय समेत सभी उत्तर-पूर्वी राज्यों में भी अगले पांच दिनों तक इसी तरह का मौसम रहने की संभावना जताई है।

उत्तर प्रदेश के कई जिलों में लगभग 1 हफ्ते से बाढ़ के हालात बने हुए हैं। बाढ़ का सबसे ज्यादा असर गोरखपुर में है। यहां राप्ती नदी खतरे के निशान के ऊपर बह रही है। अब तक 55 से ज्यादा गांव डूब चुके हैं। NDRF, SDRF और PAC की टीम 100 नावें लगाकर राहत-बचाव के काम में जुटी है।

गंगा नदी भी उफान पर है। वाराणसी में गंगा में 30 घाट डूब चुके हैं। दशाश्वमेध घाट के गंगा आरती स्थल तक पानी पहुंच गया है। अस्सी घाट की पुराने आरती स्थल की जगह बदल दी गई है। आज आरती 4 फीट पीछे होगी। उधर, बिहार के नेपाल से सटे इलाकों में भी बाढ़ की स्थिति बनी हुई है।

इसके अलावा मुंबई में गुरुवार को तेज बारिश हुई। मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक, 10 घंटे में (सुबह 8 बजे से शाम 6 बजे तक) 101 मिमी बारिश दर्ज की गई। इस दौरान पेड़ और दीवार गिरने जैसी कई घटनाएं भी सामने आईं, लेकिन कोई हताहत नहीं हुई।

IMD ने शुक्रवार को 8 राज्यों गोवा, महाराष्ट्र, तेलंगाना, कर्नाटक, आंध्र प्रदेश, गुजरात, छत्तीसगढ़ और ओडिशा में बहुत भारी बारिश की चेतावनी दी है। वहीं, 5 राज्यों मध्य प्रदेश, हिमाचल प्रदेश, उत्तराखंड, राजस्थान और हरियाणा भारी बारिश का अलर्ट जारी किया है।

उधर कर्नाटक को भी शुक्रवार सुबह भारी बारिश हुई। शिगांव के मदापुरा गांव में एक घर की दीवार गिरने से एक ही परिवार के 2 बच्चों समेत तीन लोगों की मौत हो गई। मौसम विभाग ने आज 13 राज्यों में भारी बारिश का अलर्ट जारी किया है।
