BJP leader RP Singh confirmed that the committee was constituted following an appeal by Punjab BJP Chief Kewal Dhillon. The panel is tasked with studying the film's content, facts, and themes, as it reportedly lacked official Censor Board approval.

Originally titled 'Punjab 95', the film was released on an OTT platform under the new name 'Sutlej' after facing a three-year ban. However, it was abruptly taken down just two days post-release.

The Legacy of Jaswant Singh Khalra

The movie chronicles the life of prominent human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. During the era of militancy in Punjab, Khalra collected records from cremation grounds and municipal corporations, claiming that 25,000 youth were killed in fake police encounters and cremated as "unidentified" bodies. His revelations shook the nation but cost him his life. He was abducted from outside his Amritsar home and subsequently murdered.

A Wife’s 16-Year Fight for Justice

Following his disappearance, his wife, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, spearheaded a grueling 16-year legal battle from the trial courts to the Supreme Court. Despite alleged political apathy—including a meeting with then-CM Prakash Singh Badal, who reportedly told her to "forget the case"—she refused to back down.

He was welcomed at the airport by President Prabowo Subianto. A major highlight of the bilateral meeting between the two leaders is the expected finalization of a ₹2,500 crore deal for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system.

Strategic Defense Partnership If finalized, Indonesia could become the second international customer for the BrahMos missile, following the Philippines. Developed by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, the BrahMos is recognized as one of the fastest operational supersonic cruise missiles in the world. Additionally, the development of the Sabang Port remains a key agenda item, aimed at strengthening maritime connectivity, logistics, and security, given its proximity to India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Cultural and Historical Bonds Beyond defense, the visit highlights the 2,000-year-old cultural ties between the two nations. Despite being the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, Indonesia’s heritage is deeply influenced by Hindu-Buddhist traditions. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit the 9th-century Prambanan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. The influence of Indian culture is also evident in local traditions like the Ramayana-based dance dramas, and the historical depiction of Lord Ganesha on Indonesian currency.

Visit Milestone This trip marks Prime Minister Modi’s 102nd foreign visit and his third trip to Indonesia. He previously visited the country in May 2018 and again in September 2023 for the 20th ASEAN-India Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit.

Police teams rushed to the spot immediately upon receiving the information.

All individuals trapped in the rubble have been safely evacuated. While four people were rescued earlier in the day, two more were pulled out at 9:45 PM. The latter two were transported to the hospital wrapped in white sheets. According to sources, they are feared dead, though official confirmation is still awaited.

Ramesh, a survivor who was pulled from the debris, stated that around 20 to 25 people were inside the building. At approximately 4:20 PM, they felt a tremor similar to an earthquake, and the building instantly collapsed. To rescue those trapped, the NDRF was called in. JCB machines were used to remove the lintel/roof to ensure airflow and save lives.

NDRF official Sanjeev Kohli reported, "We have rescued two people from the debris; one was unconscious, while the other was responsive. Our team successfully secured the lintel." The entire rescue operation lasted for about 5.5 hours.

MPS Chawla, President of the Industry Association, noted that the building was quite old. Located at Plot No. 28/9 in the Industrial Area, scrap work was being conducted on the premises. He attributed the roof's collapse to the building's age.

Built in 1972, Rented Out 15 Days Ago According to available information, the commercial building was allotted and constructed in 1972. It was rented out just 15 days ago, and work was actively underway. Continuous rain over the past two days reportedly caused dampness and seepage, which ultimately led to the structural failure. The two individuals trapped inside later in the evening were identified as Tarun Kaushik and Tarun Jain, both residents of Meerut, UP.

Delay in Informing NDRF The incident occurred around 4:20 PM. Police and Civil Defence teams arrived promptly and initiated the rescue operation. However, the NDRF was not informed immediately. They received the distress call around 6:45 PM—nearly two and a half hours after the collapse—after which NDRF teams arrived and took charge of the situation.

Mayor Comments on the Incident Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi stated that six to seven people were inside the building at the time of the collapse. Four were rescued safely, and while two remained trapped at the time of his statement, he mentioned their condition was stable. He confirmed it was an old building undergoing renovation work. However, when questioned about the Civil Defence team's delay in notifying the NDRF, the Mayor declined to comment.

Among those named is an operative involved in conducting reconnaissance on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.

The operative has been identified as Mohammad Musadik, a close relative of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed. While official sources confirmed Musadik's involvement in the recce of these high-profile targets, details regarding the exact timeline and whether he executed the surveillance himself or orchestrated it through local modules remain undisclosed.

Links to Banned Terror Outfits

According to the government, all 23 individuals on the updated list are associated with banned Pakistan-backed terrorist organizations, including:

Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)

The Resistance Front (TRF)

Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD)

These individuals have been actively involved in recruiting youth for terror cells, facilitating illegal infiltrations into India, plotting high-value attacks, terror funding, and smuggling arms and ammunition across the border.

Demographic Breakdown of the Terrorists

Of the 23 newly designated terrorists:

6 are natives of Jammu and Kashmir.

17 are Pakistani nationals (with 7 operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and 10 based in mainland Pakistan).

With the inclusion of these 23 names, the total number of individuals officially designated as terrorists by the Government of India has risen to 80.

Connections to Major Terror Attacks

Official sources revealed that several newly listed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were key conspirators behind major strikes in Jammu & Kashmir, specifically the 2016 Nagrota Army Camp attack and the 2022 Sunjwan attack.

The Nagrota Attack (2016): On November 29, 2016, three heavily armed terrorists disguised in military uniforms stormed an army camp in Nagrota, Jammu. Seven Indian Army personnel lost their lives before all three terrorists were neutralized. Investigative agencies later traced the handlers back to JeM.

The Sunjwan Attack (2022): On April 22, 2022, terrorists ambushed a bus carrying CISF personnel in the Sunjwan area of Jammu. A CISF ASI was martyred, and several others were injured. While TRF initially claimed responsibility, subsequent investigations exposed a deeper cross-border network operating from Pakistan.

In a dramatic turn of events, Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa secretly reached Delhi and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During this visit, he was spotted alongside BJP Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh, sparking heavy speculation of a potential split.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi has opened a front against the Congress high command after being denied the position of Punjab Congress President.

Channi Calls Emergency Meeting in Morinda

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Channi called an emergency meeting of Congress leaders at his residence in Morinda. The meeting saw a massive show of strength, with 25 prominent leaders, including three sitting MLAs, in attendance.

Key Leaders at Channi's Residence:

Sitting MLAs: Tript Rajinder Bajwa, Kala Dhillon (Barnala), and Rana Gurjit (Kapurthala).

Former Ministers & Senior Leaders: Former Deputy CM OP Soni, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Gurkirat Kotli, Gurpreet Kangar.

Other Prominent Attendees: Nazar Singh Manshahia, Davinder Singh Ghubaya, Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Lakhbir Lakha, Tarsem DC, Darshan Brar, Harminder Singh Gill, Madan Lal Jalalpur, former Youth Congress President Barinder Dhillon, Kamaljit Karwal, and former MP Mohammad Sadique.

The Root Cause: Retaining Raja Warring

The primary trigger for the rebellion is the Congress high command's decision to retain Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Chief ahead of the February 2027 assembly elections.

Channi's name was reportedly finalized for the state president post, but the sudden decision to retain Warring and appoint Channi merely as the Campaign Committee Chairman has left the former CM deeply offended. According to sources, Channi has not even formally thanked the high command for his new role.

Reactions and Internal Discord

A close aide of Channi, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the former CM is furious over the snub and is preparing for a direct confrontation. "He wants to do a show of strength to make the high command realize his political weight," the aide stated.

What the Leaders Are Saying:

Darshan Brar (Former MLA): Stated bluntly that without making Channi the state president, the Congress cannot form the government in Punjab.

Tarsem DC (Former MLA): Claimed the people of Punjab want to see Channi as the Chief Minister. However, in a contrasting statement to the media, he also claimed he wasn't officially invited by Channi, was unaware of the agenda, and suggested everyone should accept the high command's responsibilities and work together.

Kuldeep Singh Vaid (Former MLA): Maintained a neutral stance, urging that the high command's decision must be respected and accepted by all factions.

With multiple factions displaying open dissent, the Congress high command faces an uphill battle to unify the Punjab unit ahead of the crucial 2027 state elections.

A massive political storm has hit Tamil Nadu, triggered by explosive claims regarding a conspiracy to topple the newly formed TVK government led by Thalapathy Vijay.

According to reports, Tamil Nadu’s intelligence wing claims to have foiled a major destabilization plot—coming less than two months after Vijay's TVK government assumed power. This revelation has sent the state's political temperature skyrocketing.

Sources reveal that the alleged plan aimed to overthrow the government by engineering the simultaneous resignations of at least 15 TVK MLAs. However, timely intervention by the intelligence department completely thwarted the attempt.

How the Conspiracy Unravelled

According to an NDTV report, authorities launched a high-level investigation acting swiftly on a complaint filed by a TVK lawmaker.

Initial Arrest: Police initially arrested an employee working for a political consultancy firm.

The DMK Link: Early investigations pointed to a potential link between the suspect and DMK MLA Senthil Balaji.

More Arrests: Following further leads, two more individuals were taken into custody and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation.

The ₹35 Crore Offer and Threats

Sources state that the whistleblower in this case is N. Ilayaraja, the TVK MLA from Uthangarai, who filed an official complaint with the Chennai Police.

The Allegation: Ilayaraja claimed that an individual associated with a consultancy firm named IPDS offered him a staggering ₹35 crore to support a no-confidence motion against Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar.

The TVK MLA further alleged that he was threatened and strictly warned not to disclose this offer to anyone. Media reports, citing official sources, suggest that one of the arrested individuals is a close aide of Senthil Balaji and his brother, Ashok.

TVK Lashes Out at DMK

Tamil Nadu Minister CT Nirmal Kumar launched a scathing attack on the DMK over the alleged conspiracy.

"Individuals directly associated with Senthil Balaji, as well as members of the so-called 'Karur Gang', are actively involved in this matter," Nirmal Kumar stated. He demanded that the police take strict legal action, arrest everyone involved, and put a permanent end to such "nefarious activities."

A DMK-AIADMK Nexus to Oust Vijay?

Minister CT Nirmal Kumar went a step further, accusing the DMK of joining hands with AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami to dethrone the Vijay-led TVK government. He alleged that massive sums of money were being offered to multiple TVK MLAs to encourage defection.

DMK Rubbishes Allegations, Accuses TVK of Sensationalism

Denying all charges, the DMK has hit back, accusing the TVK of intentionally leaking sensitive investigation details to grab headlines.

DMK spokesperson A. Saravanan remarked that the TVK is merely spreading sensationalism instead of relying on facts. He dismissed the entire episode as a "fabricated story" cooked up due to a lack of concrete evidence.

MK Stalin’s Premature Prediction?

This high-octane political drama comes on the heels of a statement by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. Stalin had recently claimed that the TVK government would not last long and hinted that mid-term assembly elections could be triggered at any moment. He had even advised DMK workers to remain in poll-

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra was targeted in an egg-throwing incident. The attack allegedly took place inside a restaurant where she was meeting with party workers. A group of protestors gathered outside and began hurling eggs at the establishment.

Caught on Camera: The Viral Videos

The entire dramatic incident was captured on camera from two different perspectives, and two videos have since gone viral:

The Protestors' View: Filmed by the demonstrators outside, this video shows a group of men and women chanting slogans and throwing eggs at the restaurant, while normal traffic continues on the road next to them.

Mahua Moitra’s View: Recorded by Moitra herself from inside the restaurant, this footage shows eggs smashing against the windows while she sits with local TMC leaders and party workers, documenting the chaos on her phone.

The TMC has alleged that BJP supporters are behind the attack. However, the BJP has not yet issued an official reaction to these allegations.

Why is the Public Hurling Eggs?

The trend of throwing eggs at TMC leaders has picked up significantly following the party's defeat in West Bengal. Before Mahua Moitra, prominent leaders like Abhishek Banerjee, Bapaditya Dasgupta, Sabyasachi Dutta, and Madan Mitra have all faced similar "egg showers."

This public fury didn't spark overnight. It is the result of years of pent-up resentment from local citizens, ranging from small business owners to auto-rickshaw drivers. Locals allege that during its tenure, the TMC extorted crores of rupees from them through "cut money" (commissions) and illegal extortion.

The matter of these egg attacks has now reached the legal corridors. Taking a strict stance on the recurring incidents, the Calcutta High Court has demanded a detailed report from the state government.

Whether working a desk job, driving long distances, or relaxing in front of a screen, we spend a massive portion of our day sitting down. However, recent health guidelines and medical research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine highlight a startling reality: prolonged sitting is an independent threat to human health.

Even if you smash a rigorous one-hour workout at the gym every morning, it cannot entirely reverse the physiological damage caused by sitting for eight to ten hours afterward. Fortunately, scientists have discovered a remarkably simple, zero-cost "survival hack" to combat this: taking a 5-minute walking break for every hour you spend sitting.

Why Sitting is a Silent Threat to Your Body

When you sit down for hours at a time, your body essentially enters a state of structural hibernation. The large skeletal muscles in your lower limbs—which are meant to contract and pump blood—go completely slack.

This sustained inactivity triggers several invisible, internal issues:

Sluggish Metabolism: The body's ability to break down fats and regulate blood glucose drops sharply.

Vascular Damage: Reduced blood flow causes pooling in the legs, which can stiffen the arteries and elevate blood pressure.

Insulin Resistance: Unbroken sitting makes cells less responsive to insulin, creating a direct pathway to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

Data from the Journal of the American College of Cardiology indicates that individuals who remain sedentary for more than 10.6 hours a day face up to a 60% higher risk of heart failure or cardiovascular death.

The "Sweet Spot": Why 5 Minutes Every Hour Works

Researchers studying the effects of "exercise snacks"—short bursts of movement throughout the day—tested several intervals to find out how much movement is necessary to undo the harms of sitting.

The results showed that while walking every 30 minutes provided the highest metabolic benefits, it was often too disruptive for corporate and office environments. Conversely, waiting two hours to walk was simply not effective enough. A 5-minute stroll every 60 minutes emerged as the perfect "sweet spot." It is highly achievable, easily adopted as a habit, and heavily protective of your long-term health.

The Hidden Mental Health Boost

Most conversations about sitting focus purely on physical ailments like obesity or heart attacks. However, researchers emphasize that the hidden costs of prolonged sitting are actually mental.

When you sit all day, your brain experiences reduced blood flow, causing low mood and mental fatigue. This creates a destructive feedback loop: you leave work feeling so mentally drained that you opt to slouch on the couch at home, rather than cooking a fresh meal, socializing, or exercising. Breaking up your sitting time every hour keeps blood circulating to the brain, improving focus, boosting your mood, and giving you the energy to maintain a healthier lifestyle outside of work hours.

Simple Ways to Build the Hourly Walking Habit

Transitioning from a sedentary routine to an active one does not require drastic lifestyle shifts. You can easily integrate these 5-minute movement snacks into your workday with a few deliberate changes:

Set a Friendly Timer: Use your phone, smartwatch, or a desktop extension to give you a gentle nudge 50 minutes into every hour.

The "Stand and Call" Rule: Make it a strict habit to stand up and pace around your room or office whenever you take a phone call.

In-Person Communication: Instead of sending an email or an instant chat message to a coworker sitting a couple of desks away, stand up and walk over to talk to them.

Hydration Strolls: Keep a smaller water glass at your desk. The frequent trips to refill it at the water dispenser will naturally force you to log those crucial steps.

Your body was built to move, not to remain parked in a chair. By committing to just 5 minutes of walking for every hour of sitting, you can shield yourself from chronic illnesses and secure a healthier, more vibrant lifetime ahead.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the formation of a colossal 1,500-kilometer-long monsoon trough stretching all the way from the northern Bay of Bengal to Jammu & Kashmir. This critical weather corridor has significantly accelerated the pace of the Southwest Monsoon, pushing it into 26 states and Union Territories.

As the trough gradually shifts southward into its normal position, meteorologists warn that Northern and Northwestern India will witness a period of intense, widespread downpours between July 1 and July 4.

The 1,500 KM Trough: Breaking Down the Weather System

A monsoon trough is an elongated zone of low atmospheric pressure that effectively acts as a giant vacuum, pulling heavy, moisture-laden winds from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal deep into the Indian mainland.

For the past few weeks, this trough hovered close to the foothills of the Himalayas, leaving the northern plains reeling under intense heatwaves and severe humidity. However, with the system expanding and consolidating into a 1,500 km belt, it is now perfectly positioned to dump heavy precipitation across the Indo-Gangetic plains and the northern mountain ecosystems.

State-Wise Impact and Forecast (July 1 – July 4)

The rapid progression of the monsoon has brought immediate relief from heatwave conditions, with temperatures expected to drop by 4°C to 6°C across the northern plains. However, the sheer volume of water carries high risks.

An active Western Disturbance—a moisture-rich storm system originating from the Mediterranean region—is converging with the monsoon trough. This interaction will cause widespread and heavy rainfall across the hilly terrains. The Shimla Met Centre has issued an Orange Alert for several districts in Himachal Pradesh (including Kangra, Mandi, and Shimla), warning of potential cloudbursts, flash floods, and sudden landslides.

2. The Northern Plains (Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Western UP)

The long, punishing wait for Delhi residents is finally coming to an end. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are slated to engulf the National Capital Region, Punjab, and Haryana. While the rain will break the humidity, civic authorities are bracing for localized urban waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

3. Eastern and Central India (West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar)

The tail-end of the trough over the Bay of Bengal is keeping Eastern India incredibly volatile. The IMD has issued a strict warning for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, predicting extremely heavy rainfall. Rivers like the Teesta and Jaldhaka are experiencing rising water levels, putting low-lying districts on high alert.

A fresh 5.6-magnitude earthquake has struck offshore near Venezuela's Aragua region, triggering sudden panic across a country already crippled by one of its deadliest seismic disasters in recent history. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the tremor occurred at a shallow depth of 30 kilometers. While there are no immediate reports of new casualties from this specific offshore tremor, it has severely disrupted ongoing rescue efforts and rattled the nerves of citizens struggling to process a catastrophic week.

Death Toll Reaches 1,430 Following Initial Twin Quakes

The latest 5.6-magnitude earthquake is a terrifying reminder of the initial "doublet" disaster that struck northern Venezuela just days earlier on June 24. Two massive twin earthquakes—measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5—hit within less than a minute of each other. The shallow nature of those initial tremors amplified the kinetic energy running through urban infrastructure, flattening entire residential blocks, public housing complexes, and commercial facilities.

Official government bulletins have now confirmed at least 1,430 fatalities. Medical facilities, already strained by existing socio-economic pressures in the country, are completely overwhelmed as they attempt to treat more than 3,300 injured citizens.

Race Against Time for 68,000 Missing Citizens

The most agonizing aspect of the unfolding disaster is the staggering number of missing people. Families have formally reported approximately 68,900 individuals unaccounted for. Because the critical 72-hour survival window has officially elapsed, hope is wearing thin, yet rescue teams refuse to back down.

The coastal state of La Guaira remains the epicenter of the destruction. In cities like Caraballeda, localized chaos has erupted as desperate families utilize ropes, shovels, and their bare hands to pull apart heavy concrete blockages. Though miracles are still happening—such as the recent extraction of an 18-day-old infant and his mother—officials warn that the death toll will inevitably rise as heavy machinery clears deeper layers of rubble.

International Aid Arrives Amid Domestic Strain

Acting President Delcy Rodriguez announced that international aid has started pouring into the country to reinforce the 30,000 domestic specialists on the ground. Teams from over 24 nations, including the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and France, have mobilized to provide:

More than 521 tonnes of humanitarian and medical supplies.

Specialized canine search units.

Over 2,700 international rescue and medical personnel.

The economic impact is equally devastating. A preliminary digital assessment by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) estimates direct physical damages at $6.7 billion, representing roughly 6% of Venezuela’s gross domestic product (GDP). With communication networks down and rolling power outages plaguing the capital city of Caracas, the road to recovery will be a long, arduous journey for the South American nation.

However, medical professionals and gastroenterologists observe a significant surge in patients reporting stomach infections, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and indigestion during this period. The rainy season creates an environmental shift that directly impacts food safety, water purity, and human metabolism.

5 Major Reasons for Increased Stomach Issues in the Rainy Season

Doctors highlight five primary triggers that lead to a sharp rise in gastrointestinal complications during the monsoon:

1. Widespread Contamination of Drinking Water

Heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and flooding frequently lead to sewage overflows mixing with municipal drinking water pipelines. Even water that appears visually clear can harbor dangerous waterborne pathogens. Consuming or cooking with this contaminated water introduces harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites into the digestive tract, leading to severe conditions like typhoid, cholera, and gastroenteritis.

2. High Humidity Accelerates Microbial Growth

The combination of moderate temperatures and high humidity creates an optimal breeding ground for microorganisms. Fungi, bacteria (such as E. coli and Salmonella), and viral strains multiply rapidly on exposed food items, kitchen surfaces, and stored leftovers. Food spoils significantly faster in damp environments compared to dry summer months, substantially increasing the risk of food poisoning.

3. Sluggish Metabolism and Slowed Digestion

Medical experts note that the body's digestive fire, or metabolic rate, naturally slows down during the cool and humid rainy season. The physical digestive system becomes less resilient, making it difficult to process heavy, greasy, or complex meals. Consequently, indulging in heavy or fried foods during the monsoon frequently triggers bloating, acid reflux, gas, and chronic indigestion.

4. High Infection Risks from Street Food

Rainy days often trigger cravings for spicy, fried street foods. However, roadside vendors frequently face challenges accessing clean running water, proper refrigeration, and sanitized cooking conditions during heavy downpours. Uncovered food displays attract flies and mosquitoes, which act as vectors, transferring disease-causing microbes directly onto snacks, raw chutneys, or ice.

5. Compromised Personal and Environmental Hygiene

Muddy surroundings and standing rainwater make maintaining optimal hand and household hygiene difficult. Pathogens attach easily to wet skin and public surfaces. When individuals fail to wash their hands thoroughly before cooking or eating, these germs enter the mouth, disrupting the delicate balance of the gut microbiome and weakening localized immunity.

Practical Prevention Tips Recommended by Doctors

To protect gastrointestinal health during the monsoon, healthcare providers recommend following these essential precautions:

Purify Drinking Water: Drink only boiled, filtered, or sealed bottled water. Avoid tap water from unknown public sources.

Consume Fresh Meals: Eat freshly prepared, piping-hot food. Minimize the consumption of leftovers or refrigerated items older than 24 hours.

Avoid Raw Foods Safely: Steer clear of raw salads, pre-cut fruits, and unpasteurized juices from outdoor stalls. Wash home vegetables thoroughly under running water.

Incorporate Probiotics: Consume natural probiotics like fresh yogurt or buttermilk to fortify healthy gut bacteria and support overall digestive immunity.

Four-time champions Germany suffered a historic exit at the hands of a resilient Paraguay, while Morocco survived a chaotic penalty shootout against the Netherlands. Meanwhile, five-time champions Brazil narrowly avoided extra time thanks to a sensational, last-gasp winner from Gabriel Martinelli against Japan.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the action that shook the footballing world.

The Big Upset: Paraguay Stuns Germany in Historic Shootout

Match Result: Germany 1 - 1 Paraguay (Paraguay won 4-3 on penalties)

In what will go down as one of the biggest upsets in modern World Cup history, Paraguay knocked Germany out of the tournament in Foxborough, Boston. This exit marks Germany's first-ever defeat in a World Cup penalty shootout, breaking a legendary streak that stretched back to 1982.

How it Happened: Germany dominated possession early on, but Paraguay’s compact defensive unit held firm. In the 42nd minute, Paraguay took a shock lead when Julio Enciso perfectly timed a downward header off a Matías Galarza cross, beating German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The Comeback: Germany returned with higher intensity in the second half. Arsenal forward Kai Havertz equalized in the 54th minute, flicking home a cross from Florian Wirtz. Despite heavy pressure and a controversially disallowed extra-time header from Jonathan Tah via VAR review, the teams finished locked at 1-1 after 120 minutes.

The Shootout Drama: Paraguan goalkeeper Orlando Gill turned into a national hero, saving crucial spot-kicks from Kai Havertz and Nick Woltemade. After both teams missed opportunities to seal it, Germany's Jonathan Tah blasted his sudden-death penalty over the bar. José Canale calmly stepped up to smash home the winning penalty, sending the South Americans into the Round of 16 against either France or Sweden.

Martinelli Rescues Brazil Against Resilient Japan

Match Result: Brazil 2 - 1 Japan

Brazil booked their place in the Round of 16 with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Japan in Houston, avoiding what looked to be a grueling extra-time period.

First Half Shock: Japan took a well-deserved lead in the 29th minute when Kaishu Sano ghosted past a passive Brazilian midfield and slotted a low finish past Alisson Becker.

The Turning Point: Manager Carlo Ancelotti made crucial tactical adjustments at halftime, introducing young prodigy Endrick. The Seleção found their equalizer in the 56th minute when veteran midfielder Casemiro headed home a Gabriel cross at the far post.

The Winner: Just as the match looked destined for extra time, a Japanese defensive error in the 95th minute allowed Bruno Guimarães to feed Gabriel Martinelli. The Arsenal winger clinically fired past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to seal a thrilling victory. Brazil moves on to face either Ivory Coast or Norway in East Rutherford.

Morocco Edge Out Netherlands in Chaotic Penalty Thriller

Match Result: Netherlands 1 - 1 Morocco (Morocco won 3-2 on penalties)

Morocco’s hopes of recreating their historic 2022 World Cup run remain alive after a dramatic, nerve-shredding penalty shootout victory against the Netherlands in Monterrey.

Late Drama in Regulation: Following a tense battle, Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo broke the deadlock for the Dutch in the 72nd minute. However, just as the Netherlands thought they had secured passage, Morocco’s Issa Diop scored a sensational stoppage-time header (90+1') to force extra time.

The Penalty Chaos: A grueling extra 30 minutes couldn't separate the sides, leading to a wildly unpredictable shootout. Stars like Achraf Hakimi, Quinten Timber, Neil El Aynaoui, and Crysencio Summerville all missed their respective spot-kicks. Ultimately, Ismael Saibari kept his composure to score the decisive penalty, sending Morocco through to a Round of 16 clash with co-hosts Canada.

This historic win sealed a 2-1 series triumph for New Zealand, marking only their fourth-ever Test series victory in England and the first one since 1999.

The match also served as a heartbreaking farewell to England’s talismanic captain, Ben Stokes, who announced his sudden retirement from international cricket on Day 4. Chasing a daunting target of 373 runs, the hosts collapsed for just 212 runs shortly after lunch on the final day, souring Stokes' final outing in England colors.

Historic Triumph for the Black Caps

New Zealand’s victory is a testament to their resilience, especially considering they bounced back after losing the first Test at Lord's. Under the astute captaincy of Tom Latham, the Kiwis became the first team in cricket history to come from behind and win a three-Test series on English soil.

Latham also entered an elite bracket of legendary captains—including Imran Khan, Sir Clive Lloyd, and Richie Benaud—to have won Test series in both India and England.

The Final Day Collapse

England started Day 5 in a precarious position at 103/4, needing an unlikely 270 more runs to win. The English batting line-up, heavily criticized throughout the series for its overly aggressive "Bazball" approach, fell like a pack of cards in the morning session.

The collapse began rapidly when New Zealand's breakout star, Nathan Smith, dismissed Emilio Gay for 10. Just four balls later, a moment of sheer brilliance in the field broke England’s back: Henry Nicholls executed a spectacular direct-hit run-out from backward point while losing his balance, dismissing the veteran Joe Root for 18.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith showed immense grit, fighting hard for his 60 off 91 balls. He put together a temporary 75-run stand with Gus Atkinson (19) to briefly lower the target, but left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner broke the partnership by trapping Atkinson leg-before-wicket (lbw) right before lunch. Following the break, the tail offered no resistance, and England folded swiftly for 212.

Spoilers to Ben Stokes' Grand Farewell

The headline surrounding the match was heavily focused on England skipper Ben Stokes, who shockingly announced he was stepping away from international cricket due to feeling "burnt out."

Hoping to sign off with a classic match-winning performance, Stokes had dramatically promoted himself to open the batting late on Day 4. He treated the Nottingham crowd to a fiery, 20-ball 30 that included two massive sixes before holing out in the deep. Because he was dismissed on Sunday evening, he played no active role on the final day, watching from the dressing room balcony as his international career concluded with England’s first home series defeat of three or more matches since 2012.

Performers of the Series

Nathan Smith (NZ): Finished as the leading wicket-taker of the series with 16 wickets, providing the crucial breakthroughs when New Zealand needed them most.

Following the breach, the Maharashtra State Examination Council (MSEC) officially postponed the examination. New dates for the exam will be announced later.

According to the police, raids were conducted at multiple locations in the Bhiwandi area of Thane immediately after receiving information about the leak. Examination Council officials were summoned to verify the seized question papers, confirming the leak.

Police stated that several individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the case, though the exact number of detainees has not been disclosed. This crackdown occurred just a day before the exam, which over 4.28 lakh candidates were slated to take. TET is a mandatory qualification for individuals aspiring to become government teachers in Maharashtra, as well as for those already in service.

High-Tech Security Measures Failed at 1,729 Centers

Despite elaborate arrangements, the paper was successfully compromised. The massive scale of the planned security included:

1,729 examination centers established across the state.

Installation of 18,000 AI-based CCTV cameras.

Live monitoring of every center from state and district control rooms.

Biometric and face recognition systems for candidate verification.

Thorough checking using metal detectors.

A strict ban on mobile phones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices.

Mandatory presentation of identity cards like Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, or Driving License for entry.

Adding to a String of Major Paper Leaks

This incident follows a troubling trend. Over the past five years, the country has witnessed 10 major paper leaks, including high-profile exams like the Rajasthan REET, the UP Police Constable recruitment exam, and the recent NEET-UG in May 2026.

What is the TET Exam?

The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is a national-level qualifying exam that determines a candidate's eligibility to teach primary and upper-primary classes (Classes 1 to 8). The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) made this exam mandatory in 2010. The exam is conducted at both the central level (CTET) and the state level (State TET).

Initially, the NCTE gave appointed teachers a 5-year window to qualify for the TET, which was later reduced to 4 years. When candidates challenged the NCTE notice, the Madras High Court bench ruled in June 2025 that teachers appointed before July 29, 2011, were not obligated to pass the TET to remain in service, though it remained mandatory for promotions. The issue eventually reached the Supreme Court through various state appeals.

Supreme Court Mandate (September 2, 2025): TET is Compulsory

On September 2 last year, the Supreme Court ruled that it is mandatory for teachers to pass the TET to continue in service or receive promotions. A bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Manmohan stated that all teachers with more than five years of service remaining would fall under this rule.

Exercising its special powers under Article 142, the Court extended the deadline for passing the TET from August 31, 2027, to August 31, 2028. Those who fail to pass the TET by this deadline will either have to resign or face compulsory retirement.

Rahul Gandhi Reacts: "Education Has Become an Extortion System"

Following the latest leak, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the central and state governments.

Taking to social media, he wrote, "Another paper leaked, another exam cancelled. This time it is the Maharashtra TET exam." He further stated that the country's education and examination systems have morphed into a "system of extortion," leaving the youth feeling highly insecure. He emphasized that this is not just a paper leak, but a direct theft of the youth's future.

The breakthrough was achieved late Friday night following a proactive initiative by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

A delegation of Nihangs had met CM Saini to seek his intervention in the matter. Following the meeting, the Chief Minister assigned his Political Advisor, Tarun Bhandari, the responsibility of mediating with the Uttarakhand government.

On Saturday, Bhandari personally visited the authorities and held dialogues. As a result of these discussions, the four Nihangs arrested in connection with the Karnaprayag assault case were granted bail.

Haryana CM’s Advisor Mediates the Peace

Tarun Bhandari shared details of the mediation, stating, "A meeting was held with the Nihangs from Punjab late Friday night at the Chandigarh CM residence to facilitate a compromise between the two parties. On the CM's instructions, I traveled to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh today (Saturday) and held a meeting with the Nihangs at the Gurdwara Sahib. It was decided that the four arrested Nihangs would be released on bail by late night."

Timeline of the Dispute: How It Started

The controversy traces back to June 16 in the Karnaprayag market of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand.

The Incident: A group of Nihangs returning from the Hemkund Sahib Yatra was involved in a minor accident when their motorcycle struck a parked car in the market.

The Escalation: A verbal altercation quickly escalated into a violent clash. Allegations surfaced that some Nihangs attacked locals with swords and sharp weapons, injuring several residents.

The Arrests: Taking swift action, the police arrested four Nihangs—Jasanpreet Singh, Ajay Singh, and Manpreet Singh (all residents of Mohali), along with Satvinder Singh (SAS Nagar). They were booked under severe charges, including attempted murder, and sent to jail.

Counter-FIR and Allegations of Bias

Following the arrests, the Sikh community alleged that the police had taken one-sided action and maintained that the Nihangs had acted in self-defense. Subsequently, based on a complaint filed by the father of an injured Sikh pilgrim, a counter-FIR was registered at the Karnaprayag Kotwali against unidentified locals.

The Protest March to Uttarakhand

Outraged by the arrests, a large contingent of Nihangs departed from Mohali and Chandigarh on June 25, marching toward Uttarakhand to demand the release of their companions.

The protesting Nihangs demanded:

The immediate release of the four arrested men so they could be brought back to Punjab with dignity.

An impartial, fair investigation into the FIR.

A probe into the alleged biased police action.

The march proceeded through Paonta Sahib (Himachal Pradesh) and reached the Kulhal border of Uttarakhand, where heavy police barricading prevented their entry. The situation remained tense until the successful mediation on June 26 led by the Haryana CM's office finally defused the crisis.

The Science: Why Do Earthquakes Happen? The Earth's surface consists of seven major and several minor tectonic plates. These plates are in a state of constant motion and sometimes collide with one another. When they collide, the edges of the plates can bend. When the pressure becomes too immense, these plates break, releasing trapped underground energy. This energy violently pushes outwards to the surface, resulting in the disturbances we feel as earthquakes.

Alongside him, Lovely Professional University (LPU) Chancellor Ashok Mittal is also in the race.

Why the Need for a New Face from Punjab?
Currently, Ravneet Singh Bittu serves as the Union Minister of State from Punjab. However, his Rajya Sabha term ended on June 21. If he is not elected as an MP within six months (by December 21), he will have to step down from his ministerial post. Consequently, the induction of a new face from Punjab into the Union Cabinet is considered almost certain. Tarun Chugh, who was recently sent to the Rajya Sabha in place of Bittu, is also a prominent contender in this race.

According to government sources, a central cabinet reshuffle is expected this Sunday or Monday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly met President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday to discuss these suggestions, though no formal confirmation has been made yet.

Chadha’s Role in Breaking AAP’s Ranks
Raghav Chadha was a key architect of AAP's massive victory in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, where the party won 92 out of 117 seats. For the first two years of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's government, Chadha was often viewed as the "Super CM" of Punjab.

However, relations soured. When AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal was jailed in the liquor policy case, Chadha was in the UK. Upon his return, he rebelled and played a pivotal role in fracturing AAP by taking 7 of its MPs with him to join the BJP.

What Does the BJP Gain?

Media Narrative: The BJP gets a highly recognizable face to set a strong media narrative in Punjab.

Aggressive Campaigning: As a former AAP core committee member, Chadha is expected to campaign aggressively against his former party in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Urban Influence: Chadha can wield significant influence in urban and industrial hubs like Ludhiana and Jalandhar, acting as a crucial bridge between local industrialists and the central government.

The Setback for AAP
If Chadha is appointed as a Union Minister, AAP will face a severe psychological and organizational blow. The same leader who actively sought votes for AAP in 2022 will now be criticizing the ruling party, raising doubts in the minds of voters. Furthermore, Chadha's elevated role in the BJP could trigger an exodus of AAP leaders, particularly those who are denied party tickets or are dissatisfied with the current leadership.

The Roots of the Case: A Decades-Old Dubai Connection

Unlike the heavily publicized Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam that unfolded later, this specific legal battle stems from a credit facility extended by the Bank of India back in 2012. The loan was granted to Firestar Diamond FZE, a Dubai-based subsidiary promoted by Modi’s parent company, the Firestar Group.

To secure the financing for his diamond enterprise, Nirav Modi signed a personal guarantee on August 3, 2012. Under the strict terms of that legal contract, he took individual responsibility to pay back the credit line in full if the borrowing corporate entity defaulted.

When investigations into his sprawling financial operations broke out in early 2018, the financial stability of the Firestar Group rapidly crumbled. Following consecutive defaults by Firestar Diamond FZE, the Bank of India initiated separate international recovery proceedings against Modi to enforce the personal guarantee he signed.

Court Rejects Nirav Modi's Legal Defenses

During the London trial, Nirav Modi’s legal team put forward several arguments to prevent the enforcement of the contract, claiming that the personal guarantee was not legally binding. Modi further asserted that the Bank of India had failed to serve valid demand notices requesting the repayment.

Judge Simon Tinkler completely dismissed these defenses. The court verified that the recovery demand notices were legally and properly served by the bank—with one copy delivered directly to Wandsworth Prison in south-west London where Modi is currently held, and another communicated directly to his appointed legal council.

The judge noted in his final ruling:

"Mr. Modi is liable under the personal guarantee to the bank for the principal amount due of $4.1 million (approximately ₹38.9 crore). The interest calculated on the basis set out by the bank is to be added. Mr. Modi has not provided any defense to explain why the bank was not entitled to that sum."

The final ordered payout exceeds $10.7 million (₹100 crore) because it compiles the initial unpaid principal alongside steep accrued interest and legal costs built up over years of non-payment.

Financial Fallout of the 2018 Investigations

The court records heavily referenced how the disclosure of Modi's broader banking fraud in India triggered the collapse of his business empire. The judge highlighted a February 2018 email written by Nirav Modi himself, in which the diamantaire openly admitted to lenders that the unfolding domestic investigations would severely damage the group's capacity to meet its international financial commitments.

Current Legal Status and Extradition Standstill

The 55-year-old former luxury jeweler has been lodged in a London prison since his arrest in March 2019. While India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) continue pushing for his extraction to face trials for the massive ₹13,000 crore PNB fraud case, the procedure remains stuck in a web of complex international legal appeals.

Though the UK Home Secretary officially ordered his extradition back in 2021, Modi continues to utilize high-level legal maneuvers in British and European human rights courts to block his return. Nevertheless, this latest London High Court commercial ruling offers a major, enforceable weapon to Indian state-backed banks aiming to seize Modi's remaining global assets.

On Tuesday evening, June 23, 2026, during Portugal's crucial Group K match against Uzbekistan in Houston, the 41-year-old icon achieved what no other human has done before: scoring in six different editions of the FIFA World Cup.

With his magnificent display, Ronaldo also overtook the legendary Eusébio to officially claim the crown as Portugal's highest-ever goalscorer in World Cup history.

The Historic Moment in Houston

Following a highly criticized 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their tournament opener, Portugal entered their match against Uzbekistan under immense pressure. Ronaldo himself faced intense scrutiny after a quiet performance in the initial game, with critics suggesting his time at the top had concluded.

However, it took the legendary captain a mere six minutes to respond. Meeting a pin-point cross from João Cancelo at the near post, Ronaldo deftly slotted the ball home to give Portugal a 1-0 lead. The goal sparked ecstatic celebrations, bringing the Houston crowd to its feet to join in his famous "Siu!" celebration.

The veteran striker wasn’t finished. In the 39th minute, capitalizing on a lethal counter-attack engineered by Bruno Fernandes, Ronaldo received a through pass, held off the Uzbekistan defense, and drove a powerful right-footed strike into the far post. His brace propelled Portugal to an eventual 5-0 routing of Uzbekistan, earning him the undisputed Man of the Match honors.

Breaking Down a 20-Year Legacy (2006 – 2026)

While Ronaldo shares the record for participating in six consecutive World Cup tournaments with his long-time rival Lionel Messi, he stands completely alone in finding the back of the net in every single edition he has contested. Lionel Messi failed to score in the 2010 edition in South Africa, giving CR7 an exclusive piece of football history.

Ronaldo's historic World Cup scoring timeline spans exactly 20 years and 11 days from his first goal to his most recent:

Overtaking the Legend: Surpassing Eusébio

Beyond the global milestone, Ronaldo’s double strike marked his 10th career goal in World Cups, pushing him past the legendary Eusébio. Eusébio had held Portugal’s all-time World Cup scoring record since 1966, where he scored an astonishing nine goals in a single tournament.

With 10 goals in the World Cup and his existing record of 14 goals in the UEFA European Championships, Ronaldo also becomes the first player ever to score double-digit goals in both major tournaments.

Additionally, his brace extended his unparalleled record as the highest goalscorer in international football history, lifting his career tally to an incredible 145 international goals in 230 appearances for Portugal. At 41 years old, he is now the second-oldest player to score at a World Cup, trailing only Cameroon's iconic Roger Milla, who scored at age 42 during the 1994 World Cup.

"I'm Back": Manager and Player React

As the final whistle blew, sealing Portugal's 5-0 victory, Ronaldo walked straight to the broadcasting camera and delivered a clear, unvarnished message to the world: "I'm back. I'm back."

Portugal’s manager, Roberto Martínez, spoke passionately about his captain's longevity and professional mentality after the match:

"He's a human being. He's allowed to have emotions, but what is truly impressive with him is his response. Whatever he feels, the answer is always to get back on the training ground, work, and demand the absolute maximum from himself. That relentless professionalism is what has driven his unprecedented longevity."

Portugal next faces Colombia in their final Group K fixture on Saturday, June 27, where Ronaldo will look to extend his newly claimed records even further.

Speaking to the Pakistani news channel ARY News, Asif stated that if Pakistan perceives its water security to be in jeopardy, it could instigate a war against India.

He accused India of interfering with the natural flow of water designated for Pakistan and utilizing it as a strategic weapon. However, during the interview, the defense minister also conceded that he lacked complete knowledge regarding the latest developments in the case over the past year

Why Did India Suspend the 1960 Treaty?

In April 2025, a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 people. Taking a definitive stand against state-sponsored cross-border terrorism, India suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty. New Delhi has clearly maintained that the treaty will remain suspended until Islamabad takes concrete, demonstrable, and verifiable action to dismantle terror infrastructure operating from its soil

Pakistan Gridlocked in Historic Water Scarcity

Pakistan is currently facing an unprecedented water crisis, with the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan bearing the brunt of the shortage. According to data released by the Sindh Irrigation Department, the water deficiency in key canals has reached catastrophic levels:

Canal Name

Water Shortage (%)

North West Canal

64.1%

Rice Canal

38%

Dadu Canal

82%

Concerns are also escalating rapidly over the Sukkur Barrage, a critical node in Pakistan's irrigation network. The consistently receding water levels pose an existential threat to the country's agricultural sector and collapsing economy

Understanding the Indus Waters Treaty

The Indus River system comprises six rivers—Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej. The total basin covers roughly 11.2 lakh square kilometers distributed across four nations:

Pakistan: 47% of the basin land

India: 39% of the basin land

China: 8% of the basin land

Afghanistan: 6% of the basin land

Over 30 crore people inhabit these basin regions. Water disputes between the regions dates back to before the partition in 1947. Following a standstill agreement breach, India briefly cut off supply to two major canals in April 1948, devastating 17 lakh acres of agrarian land in Pakistan's Punjab.

Following nearly a decade of negotiations mediated by the World Bank, the Indus Waters Treaty was signed on September 19, 1960, in Karachi by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani President Ayub Khan. It allocated the three eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej) to India and the three western rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab) to Pakistan

Severe Economic & Infrastructural Fallouts for Pakistan

The suspension of the pact has pushed Pakistan toward an economic freefall:

Agrarian Collapse: Over 90% of Pakistan’s arable land (around 4.7 crore acres) relies entirely on the Indus system for irrigation.

Livelihood at Stake: Agriculture accounts for 23% of Pakistan's National Income and sustains the livelihoods of 68% of the rural population.

Power Grid Failure: Major reservoirs like the Mangla and Tarbela Hydropower Dams are running dangerously low on water. This is projected to cause a 30% to 50% drop in Pakistan's total power generation, crippling industrial sectors and multiplying unemployment rates.

This marks the second arrest of a corrupt police official in the district within a span of 24 hours, sending shockwaves through the local police department.

The Extortion Plot: Demand of Rs 2 Lakh for a Settled Case The arrested officer, identified as ASI Talwinder Kaur, was serving as an Investigating Officer (IO) in the Women's Cell of the Bhattu police station for the past year. According to the ACB, the case pertained to a dispute involving a girl, which had already been mutually resolved by both parties.

Despite the compromise, the ASI deployed a private middlewoman, Kasturi Devi, to extort money from the complainant. The duo initially demanded a hefty sum of Rs 2 lakh to clear the file. When the complainant expressed his inability to pay such a large amount, the deal was eventually settled at Rs 35,000.

How the Trap Was Executed

The Recording: Frustrated by the constant harassment, the complainant recorded his telephonic conversations with Kasturi Devi and approached the ACB.

The Panchayat Setup: On Tuesday afternoon, a panchayat (meeting) of both parties was called at the police station. Following the meeting, ASI Talwinder Kaur explicitly instructed the complainant, "Meet Kasturi Devi, I have briefed her about everything."

The Arrest: The bribe amount was first handed over to Kasturi Devi, who then passed it on to the ASI. The ACB team, which had already laid a trap, swooped in immediately and arrested both women red-handed with the bribe money.

Back-to-Back Arrests: Tohana SI Caught the Previous Day In a strikingly similar incident just a day prior, the ACB arrested Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahendra from the Tohana Sadar Police Station.

SI Mahendra was investigating a case involving fake Haryana Roadways bus passes. The officer allegedly visited the house of the complainant, Rakesh, and threatened him saying, "Pay Rs 72,000 or I will put you behind bars." Following negotiations, the bribe was fixed at Rs 35,000. The ACB team caught SI Mahendra red-handed while accepting the amount.

The swift actions by the Anti-Corruption Bureau highlight the persistent issue of grassroots corruption, but also demonstrate the department's firm commitment to bringing guilty officers to justice.

Driven by aggressive global sell-offs and a shifting macroeconomic landscape, silver prices collapsed by a staggering ₹10,566 per kilogram in a single trading session. Gold followed a similar downward trajectory, tumbling by ₹2,522 per 10 grams.

This massive single-day correction caps off a highly volatile month for safe-haven assets. Throughout June 2026, both metals have consistently surrendered their war premiums, leaving retail investors and jewelers recalibrating their strategies.

The June Meltdown: A Closer Look at the Numbers

The current correction has significantly lowered entry barriers for physical buyers, but it has triggered sharp unrealized losses for those who bought at peak levels earlier this year. The pace of the monthly erosion highlights how quickly market sentiment shifted over just a few weeks.

Price data reflects indicative retail selling tracking metrics from the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA). Actual retail prices vary slightly across Indian cities depending on local tax structures, GST (3%), and making charges.

Why are Gold and Silver Prices Crashing?

Market analysts point to a perfect storm of global developments that rapidly dismantled the bullish momentum built up over the last year.

1. The Federal Reserve's Hawkish Stance

The primary catalyst driving the sell-off is a structurally aggressive pivot by the US Federal Reserve. After leaving interest rates unchanged at higher levels, policymakers struck a surprisingly hawkish tone, signaling that at least one more rate hike could occur before the end of the year. Because gold and silver are non-yielding assets, higher-for-longer interest rates reduce their overall appeal, prompting institutional investors to move funds into higher-yielding US Treasury bonds.

2. A Strengthening US Dollar Index

On the back of the Fed's stance, the US Dollar Index surged to a 13-month high, hovering past the 101 mark. Since global commodities are priced in dollars, a stronger greenback makes purchasing bullion significantly more expensive for buyers using alternative currencies, heavily dampening international demand.

3. Easing Geopolitical Tensions

Precious metals surged earlier this year on intense risk premiums due to conflicts in the Middle East. However, recent progress regarding initial US-Iran peace talks and a temporary stabilization around the critical Strait of Hormuz shipping routes have prompted massive profit-booking. As the immediate geopolitical panic recedes, the "fear premium" embedded in gold and silver prices is quickly evaporating.

What Should Investors and Buyers Do Now?

While a drop of more than ₹36,000 in silver and over ₹10,000 in gold within a month looks alarming on a chart, commodity experts urge existing investors not to panic-sell.

The broader, structural uptrend for precious metals remains technically healthy. Corrections of 10% to 12% are common after exceptional bull runs. For retail buyers looking ahead to the upcoming festive and wedding seasons, this multi-month low offers an excellent accumulation window. However, experts advise against trying to "time the absolute bottom." Instead, deploying a staggered buying strategy (purchasing small amounts at regular intervals) is the safest way to navigate this high-volatility phase.

In a massive direct trade-off between two franchises, India's premier left-arm wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, will be moving the other way to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The blockbuster trade has sent shockwaves through the cricketing landscape, particularly due to the massive financial adjustments involved. Pant, who broke records when LSG acquired him for an astronomical ₹27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, has agreed to a staggering ₹12 crore pay cut to return to Delhi for a revised fee of ₹15 crore. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav transitions to his home-state franchise, Lucknow, matching his existing contract valuation of ₹13.50 crore.

Why the Mega-Deal Happened: Pant's Tough Stint in Lucknow

When Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka splurged a historic ₹27 crore on Rishabh Pant in late 2024, it was envisioned as a long-term franchise-building investment. Pant was immediately handed the captaincy torch. However, reality fell far short of expectations over the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Under Pant's leadership, LSG endured highly underwhelming consecutive campaigns:

IPL 2025: LSG finished a disappointing 7th on the points table, securing just 6 wins out of 14 games.

IPL 2026: The situation worsened as the team hit rock bottom, finishing last in the 10-team league with a dismal record of 4 wins and 10 defeats (accumulating only 8 points).

Pant's individual form with the bat also waned under the heavy price tag and captaincy pressure. Across 28 matches for LSG, he accumulated 581 runs. He scored 269 runs in 2025 and 312 runs in 2026, crossing the fifty-plus mark only three times. Following the conclusions of the 2026 season, Pant stepped down as LSG captain. Backed by an influential coaching setup including Justin Langer and Tom Moody, the LSG management ultimately greenlit the decision to trade their record-buy.

Homecoming for the Prodigal Son: Pant Back at DC

For Rishabh Pant, moving back to Delhi Capitals is a return to where his legacy truly belongs. Before entering the auction pool for the 2025 cycle, Pant had spent nine consecutive seasons (2016–2024) with Delhi.

He holds the record for the most appearances in DC history with 111 matches and marshaled the side as captain in 43 games between 2021 and 2024. For a player who views DC as home, accepting a ₹12 crore salary reduction signifies a strong desire to rediscover his explosive form in familiar surroundings.

Kuldeep Yadav Bolsters Lucknow's Spin Arsenal

While Delhi gets their marquee icon back, Lucknow Super Giants have pulled off an incredible coup by onboarding Kuldeep Yadav. The 31-year-old left-arm spinner has enjoyed a spectacular career resurgence since 2022. During his multi-season stint with Delhi Capitals, Kuldeep established himself as an elite wicket-taking option, snaring 72 wickets in 65 games.

Though Kuldeep experienced a slightly subdued IPL 2026 season—taking 10 wickets in 14 games at an elevated economy rate of 10.30—his overall pedigree remains undisputed. Joining LSG means Kuldeep will finally represent the franchise belonging to his home state of Uttar Pradesh. He will form a lethal spin partnership alongside emerging local talents like Manimaran Siddharth and Digvesh Rathi.

With both franchises desperate to rewrite their championship fortunes ahead of the next season, this direct swap stands as an absolute win-win structural reset for both organizations.

According to reports, a group of 15 pilgrims from Sirsa had arrived in Amritsar around 2:00 AM on Sunday to visit Sri Harmandir Sahib. The group was waiting outside the main entrance of the railway station for the free bus service provided by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). While they were waiting, a massive, decades-old tree suddenly collapsed.

Body Taken into Custody and Sent for Post-mortem

Rajpreet Singh (13) was struck by the falling tree; he sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. ASI Bagicha Singh of the Amritsar Railway Police stated that the police have taken possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The body will be handed over to the family once the post-mortem formalities are completed.

Upon receiving news of the incident, several officials and employees of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, including Sri Darbar Sahib Manager Bikramjit Singh, arrived at the scene. They expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of all possible assistance. The deceased's father mentioned that their family is financially disadvantaged.

To bypass government restrictions, the student utilized a US-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) to run a notorious Telegram channel boldly named "Paper Mafia."

Meanwhile, the legal battle over the platform's suspension reached a conclusion as the Delhi High Court dismissed Telegram’s petition challenging the central government's temporary ban. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had issued an order on June 16, enforcing a complete ban on Telegram until June 22, explicitly to safeguard the integrity of the NEET re-examination. The High Court stated, "The Government of India holds absolute authority to block public access to any intermediary under Section 69A of the Information Technology (IT) Act in the interest of national security and public order."

Furthermore, the court highlighted that a designated Review Committee had thoroughly scrutinized the government's blocking order. Justice Karia remarked that the state's intervention demonstrated careful deliberation rather than administrative haste or negligence, thereby making court interference unwarranted.

During the intense legal arguments on Thursday, the High Court had questioned the government's sweeping approach, asking how the rights of nearly 150 million Indian Telegram users could be suspended due to the misdeeds of a few unscrupulous elements. In response, government counsels strongly argued that the immediate threat of platform abuse, massive leak syndicates, and deep-web circulation of papers right before the re-exam posed an existential risk to the academic future of millions of students, necessitating an immediate digital circuit-breaker.

Indian Air Force Launches Unprecedented Security Mission

To ensure a completely foolproof examination process, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has stepped in to conduct a massive, multi-city logistics and security operation. In a span of just four days, IAF aircraft and helicopters have completed over 200 flights to transport confidential NEET exam papers to more than 20 high-security nodal locations across India.

The entire transportation mission is slated for completion by Wednesday evening. To counter cyber and physical tampering, authorities have locked the question papers inside state-of-the-art digital containers equipped with real-time GPS tracking and specialized digital locks. A central control room managed 24/7 by military and security personnel in New Delhi is live-monitoring these boxes. If even a minor, unauthorized attempt is made to breach a box, an automatic electronic alert is instantly triggered at the headquarters.

Believing the man was responsible for his brother's suicide, the accused conspired with his associates to carry out the killing. He attacked the victim with a rod and a *kirpan* (ceremonial sword) while the latter was on his way to the vegetable market.

According to the police, the accused's elder brother had committed suicide just a week earlier. The younger brother suspected that his elder brother had taken this step after discovering his wife's illicit relationship.

On Friday, the police arrested three individuals, including the prime suspect, in connection with the case, while a search for another accused is ongoing.

Here are the details of the case...

**Ambushed and attacked with a rod and *kirpan* while heading to the vegetable market**

Mansa SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena stated that on the morning of June 17, Hardeep Singh (28) left his home in Dariyapur Khurd village for the vegetable market. The accused, who were lying in wait near the railway crossing, surrounded him and launched a fierce attack using a rod and a *kirpan*. Hardeep Singh sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.

Deceased and accused belong to the same village

Police investigation revealed that both the deceased, Hardeep Singh, and all the accused were residents of Dariyapur Khurd village. Following the incident, the police initiated a special investigation, considering the gravity of the matter, and examined various aspects of the case. The deceased worked as an accountant at the vegetable market.

Held a grudge following brother's suicide

The SSP stated that the elder brother of the arrested prime suspect, Mati Singh (30), had committed suicide a week prior. During the investigation, the police learned that Mati Singh held Hardeep Singh responsible for his brother's death. There was an alleged illicit relationship between Mati Singh's sister-in-law and Hardeep Singh, which had caused his brother mental distress.

Conspired to commit murder for revenge

According to the police, Mati Singh, devastated by his brother's death, conspired with his associates to murder Hardeep Singh. The accused kept a watch on his movements and, seizing the opportunity, surrounded and killed him while he was on his way to the market.

Police form special teams; case solved within 36 hours

Immediately after the incident, the Mansa police constituted various investigation teams. Based on technical evidence and ground-level intelligence, the police arrested three of the four named accused within 36 hours.
