A 'Warm Night' is officially declared by the IMD when the minimum (night-time) temperature remains significantly higher than the seasonal average.

The Danger: Normally, the human body uses the cooler night hours to recover from daytime heat. When nights remain hot, the heat stress becomes continuous, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and stroke.

2. Affected Regions in MP

The alert has been specifically issued for nearly 9 districts, including:

Bhopal

Chhindwara, Raisen, Sehore

Narmadapuram, Seoni, Balaghat, and Mandla

While these areas face "Warm Nights," other districts like Gwalior, Khajuraho, and Datia are recording extreme daytime highs, with Khajuraho recently peaking at $43.4^\circ\text{C}$.

3. Why is this happening?

According to meteorologists, a combination of factors is trapping heat over Central India:

Anti-cyclonic Circulation: High-pressure systems are forcing hot air downward, preventing it from escaping into the atmosphere.

Dry Westerly Winds: Hot, dry winds from the desert regions of Rajasthan are blowing into MP.

Lack of Cloud Cover: Clear skies allow maximum solar radiation during the day and prevent the earth from cooling down quickly at night.

4. Health Advisory

With the "Warm Night" alert in place, health experts suggest:

Staying hydrated even if you don't feel thirsty.

Using fans or coolers to maintain air circulation during late hours.

Avoiding heavy meals late at night as they can increase body temperature during digestion.

However, health experts and nutritionists frequently issue a surprisingly counterintuitive warning: eating too much ice cream during the summer can actually make you hotter and negatively impact your health.

Here is a brief breakdown of why you should moderate your ice cream intake when the temperatures rise.

The "Warming" Paradox

While ice cream is physically cold, it is highly dense in calories, fats, and complex carbohydrates. When you consume it, your body has to work exceptionally hard to break down these rich ingredients. This digestive process requires a lot of energy, which creates heat within the body—a process known as diet-induced thermogenesis. Ultimately, digesting that cold scoop of ice cream raises your core body temperature, leaving you feeling hotter than before.

Hidden Dehydration Risks

Staying hydrated is the most critical rule of summer safety. Unfortunately, ice cream is packed with sugar and sodium. High levels of sugar draw water from your body's cells into your bloodstream to help process the glucose, which triggers your brain to send signals of thirst. Relying on sweet dairy treats instead of water can accelerate dehydration during the months when your body needs fluids the most.

Digestive Strain and Sugar Crashes

The heavy dairy and high sugar content in ice cream can be tough on the digestive system, leading to bloating and sluggishness. Furthermore, the rapid spike in your blood sugar is inevitably followed by a sharp crash. This leaves you feeling lethargic, fatigued, and irritable—the exact opposite of the energized feeling you want for summer activities.

What to Do Instead

You don't have to banish ice cream entirely, but it should be an occasional treat rather than a daily habit. To cool down effectively, opt for:

Hydrating fruits: Watermelon, cantaloupe, and berries.

Fruit-based popsicles: Made with natural juices and no added sugar.

Ice water: Infused with lemon, cucumber, or mint for flavor.

In real life, this moment is accompanied by a mix of emotions—including excitement, nervousness, pressure, and uncertainty. Therefore, it is crucial that both individuals are mentally prepared and well-informed before making this decision. According to a report by *Psychology Today*, mutual understanding and open communication can significantly enhance this experience. Let us outline the common mistakes that people often make when engaging in physical relations for the first time.

**Failure to Communicate**

The biggest mistake is failing to communicate beforehand. If you are in a relationship with someone and are considering taking the next step, it is essential to discuss this topic openly. Understanding each other's expectations, fears, boundaries, and preferences is of paramount importance. When both partners are aware of what the other is thinking, trust is strengthened, and misunderstandings are minimized.

**Safety Measures**

The second major mistake is neglecting safety. Many people, swept up in the excitement of the moment, underestimate the importance of safety measures. However, protection is absolutely vital to guard against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Carelessness during the first encounter can easily develop into a habit, the consequences of which can be severe. Therefore, it is imperative that you fully understand and address these matters carefully before engaging in physical relations.

**Other Mistakes to Avoid**

A crucial aspect is correctly understanding the concept of consent. Consent means more than just saying "yes"; it implies that both individuals feel comfortable and safe. If either partner feels fear, pressure, or discomfort, it is not the right situation to proceed. No steps should be taken without clear and freely given consent. Simply put, you should never force your partner or proceed without their mental consent; nor should you make them feel guilty or resentful if they are not ready to make this decision. Physical intimacy is a deeply personal and emotional experience—one that should only be embraced when both individuals are fully prepared. Attempting to persuade, coerce, or exert emotional pressure on someone can exacerbate the situation and create a rift in the relationship.

Keep This in Mind

The biggest mistake to avoid thereafter is bragging about—or disclosing to others—the fact that you have engaged in physical intimacy. This experience constitutes a private moment shared exclusively between the two of you. Discussing it without your partner's explicit consent can shatter trust. Therefore, it is essential to reach a mutual agreement regarding who, if anyone, should be informed about this matter—for sometimes, a single careless remark can take a heavy toll on your relationship.

Nine people lost their lives in the tragedy. Eight women died on the spot after being crushed by the crowd, while one man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

A large number of devotees had gathered at the temple on the occasion of Sheetla Ashtami, observed on the last Tuesday of the month of Chaitra. A fair was also being held at the site. Eyewitnesses stated that there were insufficient arrangements to manage the crowd.

In their haste to offer prayers, pushing and shoving ensued. Amidst the ensuing chaos, several people were crushed beneath the crowd. A large number of people also sustained injuries. Following the incident, the temple and the fair have been shut down.

Earlier today, the President attended the convocation ceremony of Nalanda University. While 2,500 security personnel from eight districts were deployed for her security, not a single police officer was deployed to manage the crowd of 10,000 people gathered at the temple.

Following the tragedy, the Patna Commissioner has been dispatched to Bihar Sharif. The Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary to conduct an inquiry into the incident. Rajmani, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Deepnagar police station, has been suspended.

The state government has announced a compensation of ₹6 lakh for the dependents of the deceased. Additionally, the Central Government has announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh.

Key highlights regarding the tragedy:

Since it was the last Tuesday of the month of Chaitra, devotees had arrived from Patna and surrounding areas to offer prayers, leading to a massive surge in the crowd.
The temple premises were small, and there were no arrangements in place to control the crowd. A scramble ensued among the people to be the first to offer prayers.
Instead of forming queues, people attempted to push their way forward, creating a stampede-like situation. Consequently, several people were crushed beneath the crowd.
Eyewitnesses reported that there was also a delay in the arrival of the police and ambulances at the scene following the incident.
What Eyewitnesses Say:

Female devotees stated that this was the last Tuesday of the month of Chaitra. A fair was being held at the site, and the crowd had swelled significantly. They also noted that the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is quite small. People were jostling to get ahead of one another in a rush to offer their prayers quickly. No one was willing to wait in a queue to perform their worship.

Another devotee recounted, "No security arrangements whatsoever had been made. The temple interior was packed with a massive crowd. Not a single police officer was deployed inside. There were no provisions to divert the crowd or segregate it into separate queues. In fact, the temple priests themselves were urging people to offer their prayers hastily and exit immediately. Amidst this chaos, a woman suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed on the spot. Several people rushed to assist her and attempted to push the crowd back; it was during this moment that a stampede broke out."

**Ambulance Arrives 40 Minutes Later**

A devotee present at the temple stated, "Following the stampede, several women lay unconscious on the ground. Some were screaming in pain. People immediately alerted the police. Initially, only two or three police officers arrived. Working alongside them, the devotees moved the injured women to the side. Repeated calls were made for an ambulance. The first ambulance finally arrived approximately 40 minutes after the incident occurred, accompanied by a few senior police officers. The injured were then transported to the hospital. As we were lifting the women, it became apparent that some of them had already passed away."

**Three Major Causes of Negligence**

**1. Temple Management Failed to Make Arrangements**

Today marks the last Tuesday of the month of *Chaitra*. The Maghra Sheetla Temple witnesses a massive turnout on this specific day every year—a fact of which the temple management was well aware. Yet, despite this knowledge, no special arrangements were made to manage or organize the crowd. Not even basic barricades were set up within the temple premises to help control the influx of people. Between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, the crowd spiraled into complete disorder.

**2. Devotees Were Being Ushered Through a Back Door**

Instead of attempting to control the swelling crowd, the temple management and the priests present on the scene chose to exploit the situation. They began accepting money from people to grant them access to the deity through a rear entrance. There was no one to stop them, and they acted with complete impunity. This blatant favoritism and misconduct fueled growing resentment among the general public. 3.10 Thousand-Strong Crowd; No Arrangements by Police or Administration
Within the temple premises, there were neither any security arrangements in place nor had any police personnel been deployed to control the crowd. Despite having prior knowledge of the fair, the administration had not deployed a single magistrate to the site. Notably, the President was scheduled to visit a location just 30 kilometers away from the incident site, where 2,500 personnel drawn from eight districts had been deployed.

2,500 Personnel for President's Security; Tragedy Strikes One and a Half Hours Before Her Arrival in Nalanda

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Nalanda today to attend the convocation ceremony at Nalanda University. The President is scheduled to remain in Nalanda from 11:20 AM until 4:50 PM.

Robust security arrangements have been put in place for her visit. In addition to Nalanda, over 2,500 police and administrative officials have been deployed from more than eight districts—including Jehanabad, Gaya, and Patna—to ensure security.

The District Magistrate (DM) of Nalanda issued directives to magistrates and police officials to remain fully vigilant. Medical services were placed on high alert to handle any potential emergency situation, and doctors and medical personnel were stationed at the main venue of the event.

While these pills offer fast relief, medical experts are issuing a stark warning: the habitual, unprescribed use of painkillers is a silent catalyst for severe kidney damage and chronic renal disease.

The Silent Culprits: How NSAIDs Harm the Kidneys

The primary offenders are Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), which include common household names like ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac. Your kidneys act as the body’s filtration system, requiring a robust and steady blood flow to flush out toxins. NSAIDs work by blocking prostaglandins—chemicals that cause inflammation and pain, but also play a vital role in keeping the blood vessels leading to the kidneys wide open.

When you frequently take NSAIDs, these blood vessels constrict. This reduces vital oxygen and blood flow to the kidneys, leading to tissue damage over time—a dangerous condition medically known as Analgesic Nephropathy.

What Are Doctors Warning?

Nephrologists are increasingly alarmed by the normalization of self-medication. They specifically warn against the dangerous "triple whammy" effect. This occurs when a patient takes an NSAID alongside blood pressure medications (like ACE inhibitors) and a diuretic (water pill). This lethal combination drastically drops filtration pressure, risking sudden and irreversible kidney failure.

Experts stress that just because a drug is available without a prescription does not mean it is safe for daily use. A general medical rule is that NSAIDs should never be taken consistently for more than 10 days for pain, or 3 days for a fever, without a thorough medical evaluation.

Who is Most at Risk?

While painkiller overuse can harm anyone, doctors highlight that certain groups face a significantly higher risk of severe complications:

The Elderly: Natural aging reduces kidney function, making older adults highly susceptible to drug-induced toxicity.

Diabetics & Hypertensives: Both diabetes and high blood pressure already strain the kidneys; adding NSAIDs accelerates the damage rapidly.

Dehydrated Individuals: Taking painkillers while dehydrated—such as during a bout of the flu, post-workout, or with a hangover—is extremely dangerous, as blood volume to the kidneys is already critically low.

Warning Signs to Watch For :

Kidneys are highly resilient organs and often hide distress until significant function is lost. However, frequent painkiller users should watch for these early warning signs:

Unexplained swelling (edema) in the feet, ankles, or around the eyes.

Changes in urination frequency or dark, foamy urine.

Chronic, unexplained fatigue and a lingering metallic taste in the mouth.

Protecting Your Kidneys :

If you suffer from chronic pain, doctors urge finding the root cause rather than relying on daily pills. For occasional pain, acetaminophen (paracetamol) is generally considered safer for the kidneys than NSAIDs, provided it is kept within recommended limits to protect the liver.

The ultimate takeaway from health professionals is clear: the temporary relief of a painkiller is never worth the permanent cost of renal failure. Always hydrate well and consult a doctor before making any medication a daily habit.

The "Perfect Cholesterol" Paradox: Unmasking the Silent Triggers of Sudden Heart Attacks

A normal cholesterol test doesn't guarantee a healthy heart. Discover the hidden villains like inflammation and genetics causing sudden attacks.

Many of us breathe a collective sigh of relief when our annual health checkup reveals a "normal" cholesterol report. The common misconception is that as long as our Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad" cholesterol) and High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL, or "good" cholesterol) levels fall neatly within the safe range, our cardiovascular system is virtually invincible. However, modern cardiology paints a vastly different and somewhat alarming picture. Medical experts are increasingly warning about a disturbing trend: a significant percentage of patients who suffer from sudden, severe heart attacks have completely normal standard cholesterol levels.

This paradox begs a crucial question:

If high cholesterol is not the culprit blocking the arteries, then what is? The answer lies beyond the basic lipid profile. There are hidden, silent threats lurking in the bloodstream that standard tests simply do not measure. These are the "real villains" of heart disease.

The Primary Villain: Systemic Inflammation

Perhaps the most significant hidden cause of heart attacks is chronic systemic inflammation. While cholesterol acts as the raw material that builds up plaque in the arteries, inflammation is the fire that causes this plaque to become dangerous. When the inner lining of your arteries (the endothelium) becomes inflamed due to smoking, high blood pressure, poor diet, or environmental toxins, the body sends white blood cells to heal the area. This process inadvertently traps cholesterol in the arterial walls, creating unstable plaques.

More dangerously, inflammation can cause existing, seemingly stable plaques to rupture. When a plaque ruptures, it forms a blood clot that can instantly block blood flow, resulting in a sudden heart attack. To detect this hidden villain, cardiologists recommend a High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) test. A high hs-CRP level indicates active inflammation in the body and signifies a substantially higher risk of cardiovascular events, regardless of how perfect your cholesterol numbers look.

The Genetic Threat: Lipoprotein(a)

Another major, yet frequently ignored, villain is Lipoprotein(a), commonly referred to as Lp(a). This is a highly dangerous type of cholesterol particle that is primarily determined by your genetics, not your diet or your exercise routine. Lp(a) is particularly lethal because it is exceptionally "sticky." It promotes the buildup of plaque in the arteries much faster than regular LDL cholesterol and significantly increases the likelihood of blood clots forming.

Because Lp(a) levels are inherited, even a young athlete with a pristine diet and a perfect standard cholesterol report can have dangerously high levels. Unfortunately, standard lipid panels do not test for Lp(a). You must specifically ask your healthcare provider to add this to your bloodwork.

The Particle Count: Apolipoprotein B (ApoB)

When we look at standard cholesterol, we are measuring the total weight or concentration of cholesterol in the blood. However, recent science shows that the number of cholesterol-carrying particles is a far more accurate predictor of disease. Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) is a protein found on the surface of all potentially plaque-forming particles in your blood.

You could have a normal total LDL weight, but if that cholesterol is carried by a massive number of tiny, dense particles, your risk of a heart attack skyrockets. These microscopic particles easily crash through the arterial walls, embedding themselves and causing blockages. Measuring ApoB gives a much more accurate picture of your actual risk than a traditional LDL test.

Insulin Resistance and Hidden Sugars

Even if your fasting blood sugar is technically normal, you might be suffering from hidden insulin resistance. High insulin levels damage the blood vessels and promote the accumulation of visceral fat—the toxic, deep-belly fat that wraps around your internal organs. This fat actively secretes inflammatory chemicals directly into your bloodstream, creating a perfect storm for cardiovascular disease.

Actionable Steps to Protect Your Heart

Relying solely on a basic cholesterol test is no longer enough to guarantee heart health. To truly protect yourself from these hidden villains, consider taking the following proactive steps:

Ask for Advanced Testing: Discuss adding hs-CRP, Lp(a), and ApoB tests to your next annual health checkup.

Monitor Metabolic Health: Look beyond fasting glucose; ask for an HbA1c test to get a broader picture of your blood sugar control.

Adopt an Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle: Focus on a diet rich in whole foods, leafy greens, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants to naturally cool off systemic inflammation.

Manage Stress and Sleep: Ensure you get 7-8 hours of quality sleep nightly and actively manage stress, as high cortisol levels heavily damage the heart over time.

Conclusion

A normal cholesterol report is undoubtedly good news, but it is not a free pass to ignore your heart health. By understanding and addressing the hidden villains like inflammation, genetic lipid markers, and insulin resistance, you can take genuine control of your cardiovascular wellness and protect yourself from sudden, unexpected heart events.

The court granted passive euthanasia to 31-year-old Harish Rana, who has been in a coma for 13 years. Harish, a resident of Ghaziabad, is on life support.

This is the first such case in the country. A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and KV Vishwanathan directed AIIMS to phase out Harish's life support system. This process should be carried out in a manner that maintains the patient's dignity.

Passive euthanasia means stopping or withdrawing external life support or treatment to keep a critically ill patient alive, allowing the patient to die naturally.

The Supreme Court delivered this verdict on an appeal for euthanasia from Harish's mother, Nirmala Rana, and father, Ashok Rana.

Father Ashok said on the verdict:

QuoteImage
We have been fighting for this for a long time. Which parent would want this for their son? We've been fighting this case for the past three years. Now he'll be taken to AIIMS. He used to be a topper at Punjab University.

QuoteImage
Harish fell from the fourth floor of his hostel, bedridden ever since

Born in Delhi, Harish Rana was pursuing a B.Tech degree at Punjab University in Chandigarh. In 2013, he fell from the fourth floor of his hostel. This left him completely paralyzed and in a coma. He can neither speak nor feel.

Doctors diagnosed Harish with quadriplegia, a condition where patients are completely dependent on feeding tubes and ventilator support. There's no chance of recovery. Being bedridden for 13 years has left Harish with bedsores, deep wounds, all over his body. His condition is steadily deteriorating.

This condition is extremely painful for Harish. It has been extremely difficult for the family to see him like this. So much has been spent on ventilators, medications, nursing, and care over the years that the family has been financially devastated.

The Supreme Court cited Shakespeare in its decision.

While delivering the verdict, Justice Pardiwala cited the words of American cleric Henry Ward Beecher, saying, "God does not ask a man whether he accepts life; he must take life."

He also cited the line "To be or not to be" from William Shakespeare's famous play, "The Lord of the Rings," noting that courts often have to consider the "right to die" in the context of similar questions.

The decision to remove life support should be based on two criteria:

The intervention must fall within the scope of medical treatment.

It must be in the patient's best interest.

The court also stated that a doctor's duty is to treat a patient, but this duty ceases to exist when there is no prospect of recovery.

The Supreme Court asked the Central Government to enact a law.

The Supreme Court also asked the Central Government to consider enacting a law on passive euthanasia. Currently, in India, this is only possible based on Supreme Court guidelines, which require the opinion of two medical boards on the patient's condition.

There are two methods of euthanasia...

Passive euthanasia: In this, the patient's treatment or life support, such as a ventilator, feeding tube, or medication, is stopped so that the patient dies naturally. Doctors do not perform any new procedures; they simply stop treatment. The cause of death remains the disease.

Active euthanasia: In this, doctors use medication or injections to kill the patient. This is illegal in India. If someone intentionally kills a patient by administering medication, it is considered murder under Section 107 of the Criminal Procedure Code (BNS) or assisted suicide under the Criminal Procedure Code.

What is the law on euthanasia in the Indian Constitution?

In 2005, an NGO called Common Cause filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the right to passive euthanasia. On March 9, 2018, a five-judge bench led by CJI Deepak Mishra granted legal recognition to euthanasia.

The Supreme Court then stated,

QuoteImage
If a patient has a terminal illness or is in a vegetative state, i.e., alive only on life support systems, their treatment can be discontinued to allow them to die naturally. This would not be considered euthanasia, but rather the right to die with dignity.

QuoteImage
This right is part of Article 21 of the Constitution, which includes the right to live with dignity and die with dignity.

A no-fault compensation policy means that if a person suffers harm from a medicine or vaccine, they can receive compensation, even if no one is proven to be at fault.

The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta also stated that the existing system for monitoring side effects of vaccination will continue. There is no need to establish a separate expert panel for this.

The Supreme Court delivered this verdict on a petition filed in 2021 by Rachna Gangu and Venugopalan Govindan, alleging that their daughters died due to side effects of the COVID vaccine.

3 key points of the Supreme Court order…

Data related to vaccine side effects will be made public from time to time.

This decision does not mean that individuals cannot pursue other legal remedies. A compensation policy will not mean that the government or any other authority has admitted its mistake.

The decision was reserved in November 2025.

On November 13th of last year, these petitions were debated at length. Following this, Justice Vikram Nath stated that the court would decide on other issues as well. While reserving the order, Justice Nath stated, "We will decide whether to form a committee and what instructions should be issued. We will examine everything thoroughly."

Previously, the government had filed a petition challenging the Kerala High Court's interim order, which ordered the formulation of a compensation policy in response to Saida K.A.'s petition.

In 2022, the government argued in its counter-affidavit that it was not liable for compensation because the vaccine was administered voluntarily. It was a decision made despite the public's knowledge of the risks involved.

Experts also say that starting the day with fruits provides the body with essential nutrition and maintains energy. According to a report from Kims-Sunshine Hospitals, not all fruits are good for eating on an empty stomach. Some fruits can cause problems if eaten early in the morning without any food. Let us tell you which fruits should be avoided in winter.

Oranges, Lemons, Grapefruit

Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruit are easily available during the winter season. They are rich in vitamin C and are beneficial when consumed in moderation. However, eating them on an empty stomach in the morning can irritate the lining of the stomach, especially in those with gastritis or acid reflux. Therefore, if you consume them, you should try to consume them in moderation.

Apples

Apples are available in all seasons, and the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" is well-known. However, eating apples after a long fast can be detrimental for some. They are high in fiber and fructose, which can cause bloating, indigestion, or sudden fluctuations in blood sugar. Therefore, consumption should be done judiciously.

Grapes

Grapes may taste sweet, but they are mildly acidic and contain ample fiber. Consuming them on an empty stomach can cause a rapid increase in blood sugar, leading to hunger and irritability shortly afterward. So, be careful when consuming them.

Papaya

Papaya is generally considered good for digestion, but it's not suitable for everyone after a long fast. People with sensitive stomachs may experience stomach discomfort or gas due to the papain enzyme.

Watermelon, Cantaloupe, and Honeydew

Sweet fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew are delicious, but eating them in large quantities on an empty stomach can cause a rapid increase in blood sugar. They are high in water, which can also affect the stomach's acid balance.

Banana

Bananas are also not recommended for long periods of fasting. They are high in potassium, magnesium, and sugar. People with heart conditions should be especially cautious.

After 6 to 8 hours of sleep, the body becomes slightly dehydrated. Drinking water on an empty stomach helps restart internal systems.

Why Drinking Water in the Morning is Beneficial

Drinking water as soon as you wake up in the morning activates digestion, aids the natural detoxification process, and prepares the body for the day. It gently awakens the digestive system, promotes regular bowel movements, and helps maintain energy levels throughout the day.

Lukewarm Water

Lukewarm water on an empty stomach is considered the best choice. It is much lighter on the digestive system and is easily absorbed by the body. Drinking it in the morning relaxes the intestinal muscles, facilitating digestion and reducing constipation. It also helps the body eliminate toxins accumulated overnight. By slightly raising body temperature, lukewarm water can boost metabolism. It can also aid in weight management. Furthermore, it improves blood circulation by helping blood vessels naturally dilate.

Cold Water

Cold water has its benefits, but it may not be the best choice immediately after waking up. Extremely cold water can shock the digestive system, slowing down digestion or causing a burning sensation in the throat. However, it does help burn a small number of calories because the body uses energy to warm it up. Cold water is especially beneficial after a morning workout because it helps cool the body and rehydrate quickly.

How Water Temperature Affects Digestion

Water temperature plays a major role in how the digestive system responds. Lukewarm water promotes enzyme activity and easier digestion. Cold water, on the other hand, can temporarily constrict blood vessels. This slows down the digestive process. This is why warm or lukewarm water is generally preferred on an empty stomach.

This problem becomes very common, especially during winter and seasonal transitions. Sometimes the nose starts running, sometimes there's a sore throat, and sometimes a persistent cough becomes bothersome. Often, colds and coughs recur, leaving the body feeling weak.

In reality, colds and coughs are mostly caused by viral infections. A weak immune system, cold air, poor hygiene, improper diet, and lack of rest can be the main reasons. Although it's not a serious illness, the problem can worsen if not addressed promptly. The good news is that you don't always need medication to get relief from a cold and cough. Many things are readily available at home that provide natural relief from this problem. So, let's learn about some easy and effective home remedies that can help you get relief from a cold and cough without medication.

Remedies for Cold and Cough Without Medication

1. Ginger Tea - Ginger is considered very beneficial in Ayurveda. It contains elements that reduce inflammation and provide warmth to the body. Drinking ginger tea reduces throat irritation and provides relief from coughs. Adding a little honey further enhances its effect. Drinking ginger tea 1-2 times a day is beneficial during a cold and cough.

2. Steam Inhalation - Steam inhalation is a very effective remedy for colds, coughs, and nasal congestion. Inhaling steam from hot water loosens the mucus accumulated in the nose and throat, making breathing easier. Just 5 to 10 minutes of steam inhalation provides relief from headaches and congestion. You can also add a little carom seeds or eucalyptus oil to the water.

3. Turmeric Milk - Turmeric has been used as a medicine since ancient times. The compound curcumin, present in turmeric, helps fight bacteria and inflammation. Drinking a glass of warm milk mixed with half a teaspoon of turmeric before bed provides significant relief from coughs, sore throats, and colds.
